hi guys,

i have got two issues with my web hosting business.

2500 sign-ups in three days= u could think nice success

wrong

i had to stop promotion because of Chinese invaders signing up for 300 accounts and some sending spam.

spam is 1st problem i gotta solve.

second problem is cpanel. impossible to terminate dozens of accounts at the same time. its taking waayyyyyyyy too much time, maybe an hour. how can i do fast massive termination.

i will listen to any advice except the one 'quit the business'

;)

maybe you should start with not calling them terrorists.

You could disallow sending of email, or at least limit it. Also, you could block Chinese netblocks as a whole.

"Terminate Multiple Accounts" doesnt work for you?

a hacker is a terrorist ;)
anyway i talked with some people, and i will install a script to ban entire countries from accessing the site, and also ban the use of proxies. so they would need satellite connection or remote computer controlling to still sign up for an account :stickout:

i have paid and free hosting. free is supported by Adsense so its a great money maker, except if u have these ..... from China VietNam .

a fellow web host owner told me its the same for paid hosting, bc they dont only harass free hosts, but any host, so u may have the same problem

so what about cpanel? currently 2700 cpanel accounts inside my root cpanel.

i cant delete many accounts without wasting A LOT OF TIME, so money.

anyone has got the same problem?

thanks! :)

Build the world's longest wall around your server. Not only does it stop the chinese, but also those pesky mongolians.

Hmmm, blocking a whole country doesn't seem very smart - or fair - to me.

Hello,
2500 sign-ups in three days........i had to stop promotion.....
This was a very successful promotion despite you invited a lot of spammers. Where do you promote your business?

Is banning nigeria also unfair? im sure you could find 1 or 2 honest people there if you looked really really really really hard

Interesting problem, it seems this is a prevalent problem among most hosts, sorry you have run into it as well.

As far as cpanel is concerned, use the terminate multiple accounts option. Not sure why you would want to delete them all individually when that feature is available to you. Sure, with 2700 accounts needing deleted it may take awhile, but that is to be expected, but it will take far less time this way than any other.

Hope this helps.

 this one sounds like a good option.

Yeah I would go with blocking them off for a while, but I wouldnt keep it forever, just temporary till they forget about it and move on to someone else:)

Especially considering this is a public forum, his comment was far from appropriate.

The issue at the heart of this situation is unfortunate, but true. Some countries are considered high risk, especially in this business. It is really up to the host to determine whether or not that risk is worth any potential rewards.

Although to say there is 1 or 2 honest people in nigeria is pretty ridiculous. Making generalizations is a horrible way to make a point.

yes i know about multiple termination, it is this function that is taking way too much time. i mean to delete a few dozen accounts, my computer will remain opened all night long. and during the day if i have an urgent need to stop a guy, scammer spammer whatever, i cant do that.

dont know if i can get a faster cpanel. maybe its possible, maybe not, i may take a look at plesk, i dont like their interface, but maybe they dont have this problem. i mean 2700 is a lot ok , but i wanted to install 5000 people , am only half way, and its already a nightmare to get the page "list accounts" opened, more than 90 pages of accounts my server may be the prob.

i have got only a P4 2.66Ghz with one cpu and 1GB RAM.

would it be a good idea to add a CPU? ;)

concerning the ban of countries, i think its fair, i mean anyway i cant make money from adsense with them, i have let them signing up only bc i can resell these sign-ups for 20 or 30 cts each :emlaugh:

maybe racist because your afro american , am talking about China, and no one calls me racist, but the guy that cites nigeria yes.

419 scam , scam letters, u never heard of this problem? fake orders with stolen cards?

no Nigerian signed up on my site, but tons of Chinese, a few were in advanced fee scam, i saw bounced emails.

i disabled exim so they cant use my smtp anymore.

Indonesia, Romania, Russia, Nigeria are VERY HIGH FRAUD RISK countries, u dont have to be racist to figure it out, just capitalist

my watch store received bogus orders from Nigeria and Romania.

sorry for changing the subject, but i was out of my mind when i see someone called racist bc he wants to ban Nigeria, its also a country i would ban among many others.

Ok, Buster, let's set a few things straight here.

ONE: I AM NOT BLACK - I AM WHITE - I JUST HAPPEN TO BE A PERSON AND REALIZE THAT BLACK PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE TOO, JUST AS MUCH PEOPLE AS I AM

TWO: YES I'VE HEARD OF THOSE PROBLEMS. I'VE ALSO HEARD OF DUMB@$$ NOOBS WHO DONT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THE HOSTING BUSINESS. I'VE ALSO HEARD OF RACIST PIGS WHO DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE THEMSELVES AND PROBABLY AREN'T EVEN PEOPLE ANYWAY.

IF IS WAS YOU, I'D GET MY @$$ BACK TO WHEREVER THE HELL IT CAME FROM.
