View Full Version : Again HP RIPPED ME A NEW ONE!!
Synergy 01-08-2001, 10:37 PM Well I was bored today..... I decided to take apart my new HP computer which I replaced the CRAPPY ONE..... I clearly see it says P3 850 on the label, sniff sniff, I opened up the computer and I was shocked to see a overclocked Celeron processor.... Again I ask myself where is my AGP slot, ok it happed to the old one too so don't care about the damn slot.... Now they claim to be ultra expandable but all I could fit in is a extra 3d card.... :( Besides that I found myself with 216 cache while my old HP have 516k L2 Cache.
I am very dissatisfied and I warn you guys!!! DON'T BUY HP!!
I knew i should have wasted some time and built my own....... *BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP!!!!!*
KapTin Kirk 01-08-2001, 10:43 PM Did you buy it direct from HP?
cbaker17 01-08-2001, 10:48 PM We order hundreds of Hp servers a year and never have had a prob. as you desicribed sounds like a 3rd part ripped you off.
CRego3D 01-08-2001, 10:50 PM I am very surpirsed, you sure it's an HP ?, did you got it refurb or used from a local store, I cannot see a company like HP practicing sutch acts
It sounds like you got ripped by a 3rd party, cause I doubt HP had anything to do with it.
brain2b 01-09-2001, 09:59 AM If you were ripped off you need to contact Hewlette Packard ASAP, tell them where you got the machine. They should have no problem tracking the vendor down (since no doubt they are an hp authorized dealer) and getting your money back. Also they may be willing to refund you directly if you explain that this doesn't represent their company very well. Maybe if you throw the machine through the window of the store you bought it from, or threaten to call the local papers or the nightly tv news. :-) I've delt with this kind of thing before. I got one resellers vendor rights taken away and got the little snot who though he would pull a fast one fired. Also the paper did a story about it and now they are outta business. Don't take crap like that from some *sswipe who thinks they can pull one over on you.
Synergy 01-09-2001, 11:06 PM My old HP which ripped me off was from CompUSA, now this one is from Staples Office Superstore. I am a old HP fan but this is getting ridiculus. I am not into chasing the vendors around. I don't mind taking the computer but it do pisses me off... If its a Celeron then tell me its a celeron!!! I have areadly contacted them.... It has no AGP slot because it claims to have agp graphics because it has a AGP card on board.... The only part that looks good to me is the Quantum Harddrive 30.0Gigz
Also it claims to have a HP CD WRiter Plus,
after I took it down to pieces... HAH a Teac Writer
On the programs I ran (games), it detects a P3 Processor but I swear its a overclocked Celeron at 866mhz.
Model of the computer:: Pavilion 8756C
As for the expandable feature.... Its expandable if you switch your motherboard.... Gimmicks Gimmicks Gimmicks... When I went back to the store, they have taken down the HP 8756C Display Model and the rest of them... All they have now is Compaqs.
The place where I work at has many HPs, Dells, ACER, and everyone is satisfied with it.
It wouldn't hurt to give HP a call about it, they may even feel generous and compensate you with a better model.
MySiteHost 01-14-2001, 05:23 PM Frankly, that kind of crap sucks. Hourly employees offer next to zero help when it comes to support, and resolving issues. Sure, comissioned sales people can be a little too 'helpful' but at least we try to care (Yes, I work at CCity)
HP is doing a complete line change right now, the new computers are quite upgradable. Still, the main board is not, even in their AMD Athlons. WHeras the Athlon Compaqs are FULLY upgradable.
Compaq would be the last company i'd expect to finally see the light. We upgraded a 750 duron system in a 5000t case to 1.0 ghz Athlon t-bird with the existng board. Then we put in an ABIT main board with an Athlon 1.0 ghz in there. Just to see if we could. The abit board had only one part where it couldn't be screwed in (who cares?) but it actually fit in the damn case! This is a first! lol!
Synergy 01-15-2001, 02:07 PM Well i just bought another PC for my C++ use and web development.
MICRONPC
P3 800mhz
128 ram
20 GB hd
how do i know if its a 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm?
The hp goes to my sisters.
I also have a 5 year old packard bell p120mhz 40 ram 1 gb hd..... Any ideas on what I should do with it?
MySiteHost 01-15-2001, 02:36 PM they'll be able to use it. you have to look at the physical drive to be able to tell if it's 7200 RPM or 5400. Usually if it isn't talked about you can almost assume it's 5400 RPM.
Chicken 01-15-2001, 05:21 PM I attempted to solicit old pc for my classroom at sitepoint but didn't find any takers. I'd still love it, but that's up to you (and I live in S. Cali, which is another factor).
Donate it to a local school if not me. They really could use things like that.
Synergy 01-15-2001, 09:30 PM Chicken, do you really want it?
I think its still edible as a mini linux server but with the 4x cdrom drive, it might take some time to install linux :), Redhat Linux 6.2 takes 700 MBs! There goes 70% of the HD.

Old machines are the best crash machines :) I make it a point to collect all these old "out dated" or "non working" parts and make them work :) My room is full of computer parts.. hehe
Chicken 01-16-2001, 09:41 AM Would love it! I'd just load on any small educational type program I could find and let the kids use it as an actvity center. My classroom is sadly, without computer. :(
kunal 01-16-2001, 11:14 AM yea, those kids games are real fun. I was addicted to them. until I reached my board exams :) I used to run down and fight with the little ones so that I could play them. And yers, I am serious. They loads of fun :) Especially the ones with which you can make funny faces.. hehe ;)
I try to avoid small children, they tend to scare me.....
Chicken 01-17-2001, 10:35 AM Me too... imagine over 1,300 of the little monsters running around! The school I work at has over 3 times the amount of students as my high school had.
Fiber 01-19-2001, 02:04 PM Wow, I own an HP, and its been nothing but great.
I'm sure the 3rd Party Vendor ripped you off. Also, call HP. I'm sure you will get something done of it...
So..... What was the eventual resolution Synergy?
Synergy 01-28-2001, 09:10 PM Well it resolved, the product was a return from another customer who happen to fool staples. He returned the computer in box with the factory seal tape in tact. I got another one and I am well satisfied.
Fiber 01-29-2001, 03:35 AM That's good.
