View Full Version : Flood of traffic - but why?

I've not been here in quite a while but I'm hoping that someone here can help me out...

I'm getting traffic from what appears to be a web hosting control panel of sorts... however, I'm curious to know why and how I'm suddenly getting referrers from all sorts of places that I can't seem to find the source of.

What I do know is that these pages (syndicated content perhaps) is linking to my page on preventing hotlinking ( http://websiteowner.info/articles/pages/hotlinking.asp - possibly via my other domain website-owner.com)... I've also come to the conclusion that the servers are all using what I deduce to be Web Host Manager (the referral pattern is domain.com:2086/scripts/whmnews) - but I can't seem to find a link other than what is obvious (a few of the referrers I've tried finding details for appear to be using their own DNS servers).

I know this may seem trivial... after all, I am greatful for the traffic - but I really would like to know how I've been linked and why... so I can get a better idea of how long I can expect this extra boost in traffic, and perhaps thank the person(s) for linking to me if I can trace them.

So if anyone happens to use Web Host Manager at any of the following domains - I would be greatful if you could help me shed some light on the matter... it will be one of those things that will bug me if I can't find out...

Thanks in advance...

The news page in WHM contains the following entry:

HotLink Protection added. You can find out more about hotlinking Here (http://websiteowner.info/articles/pages/hotlinking.asp). (4.7.0 build 62 or later only)

The "Here" part is a link to your site, as you can see.

Thank you Justin, I appreciate your time - I thought it would be something like that, but it is nice to know. :)

Hahaha. I'm one of the ones that clicked through to your article from my WHM.
Great article, by the way.
