View Full Version : Anyone still buying Raqs?

Is anyone still buying new Sun/Cobalt servers? It's no secret that we stopped months ago due to the changes in structure at Sun and Sun's determination to kill Cobalt. (IMHO)

It looks like most of the companies that had bought Cobalt Raqs have migrated to a white box and/or Tier 1 server combined with a control panel, such as Cpanel, Plesk, Ensim ,or the others.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Once I need my server, I'm going straight for a raq...

So atleast one person needs a raq, and I'm sure others do to.

I think it would be great if rackshack would still continue supporting raqs. :)

I just bought 2 to play with and once I finish "playing", if all my tests are successful, I have authorization to fill 5 of our racks with them.....so, that's just over 200 servers.......

The one we are renting, I hate.. I'll never, ever, ever, ever go back to RaQ's again.. not XTR.. NADA! And the interface is just sickening!

i definitely think the RAQ market is dying quickly.

i think they'd be perfect for "small project dedicated plan"s. say a raq4 with 512mb ram and 150gb bandwidth or something like that for less than $99.

i'm pretty sure that i, and many others, have small projects which we need the freedom of a dedicated box, but not really have the use for a 1ghz+ processor or 60gb harddrives.

but yeah. just my opinon. blah. i am getting off of my RAQ4 as soon as i can.

My question is why do they want to kill off the Raq?

Why don't they work at improving it. They have a GREAT
product in their habds for the newbie!

I have learned so much about Linux using my Raq servers,
think I voided the warrantey 10 times over.

I have been happy with my Raq servers, I even have two from you Headsurfer!

I like the Raqs because they are easy and they are easy for my novice customers. I have a budget style of hosting and the Raqs fit perfect with that.

I just got a Celeron 1.3mhz with ensim, I am going to see how that goes.

Wish Rackshack would at least stick and stay with one platform.

I thought it was going to be your AMD servers, but you guys are going off in several directions, and I pray you guys can keep up with it.

I still have customers that like the Raqs. It's the ultimate newbie box. Really that's the market that Raq fits. A customer puts on about 20 sites and they're as happy as can be. We just need to protect them a little more than the other boxes and avoid any major customization. I'll be picking more up soon.

I really don't understand where all the RaQ is great for newbies is coming from. We get more support related issues regarding the RaQ than we do our CPanel servers and its all, how do I do this, and how do we do that? Its all a big headache!

I bought a Raq 4 in December and I probably won't buy anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's really doing a nice job for us.

But once I get about 50 sites on it I am going to move to a full server.
