RHEL 4 CANNOT run 2.4 kernel due to udev. udev
and hotplug rely on the /sys which it gets from 2.6 kernel

If you're still needing this done I can assist you, you will need local (keyboard) access to the machine however due to what Steve had pointed out. We have successfully run 2.4 kernels on centos/rhel.
Thanks.

Why? Setup a static kernel with no modules. Boot to it. Remove all related modutils stuff, including the rpms and *.old stuff in /sbin, download the stock modutils install them. install the kernel reboot piece of cake.. I would have offered to do it. But i require paypal.

a few devices are going to need to be created in /dev without udev running in order for the machine to boot, namely null console and zero.

And to follow up your "I would have done it", you specifically said "RHEL4 CANNOT run 2.4 kernel", so which is it?
Is it "cake" or impossible?
