View Full Version : SubmitIt! Any experience?
okihost 04-16-2002, 07:01 PM I just wanted to know if anyone has used the BCentral SubmitIt! program. Its 49.99 and it says they get you listed on all those engines. I have never heard about it but just noticed a link to it on the defauly ensim index page of a new site I just set up.
Effective 04-16-2002, 07:27 PM I used Ineedhits.com
Much Cheaper (2.5$) and same 400 search engines...
I noticed some improvement after submission , but not that much.. may be because I did this 2 week ago only
It'll get you into Inktomi (which feeds the search engines bcentral mentions: AOL, MSN, etc.) and give you a complex and confusing interface than you'd get by making your own Inktomi paid inclusion submission through SureList or positiontech. Basically, you're paying $49 for one url or $99 for three if you use bcentral, vs. $39 for one and $25 for each additional (so $89 for 3) through SureList.

Not the same thing at all, which is why you have seen no results after 2 weeks. The ineedhists service you used makes use of free "add url" submissions. Their list of search engines used contains many that either disregard those submissions, don't really accept them (like Yahoo), or don't need them (like Google). And then a bunch of completely useless sites that aren't going to bring you any traffic even if you do get listed.
What OKIHost mentioned is a paid spidering service. Your site would be listed within a few days and re-spidered every 48 hours.
NovaW 04-18-2002, 03:09 AM Stay away from anything that offers to submit you to 400 engines, 4000, or 40,000 - those things are a complete and total scam - to put it mildly.
For your fee you will get approximately zero traffic.
The ones that offer lots of "engines" may submit you to FFA pages - which will only fill your inbox with junk mail as far as the eye can see & potentially also result in your URL being dropped from the search engines that count.
Unfortunately - when it comes to search engines, there is no quick solution - build Links & build Content.
For the Inktomi submit - I think PositionTech is the best interface & Versign totally sucks - but just my opinion.
Check out addme.com (http://www.addme.com) . They don't claim a high number, but they are free.:cartman:
complx.net 05-28-2002, 10:39 PM you know
i just added myself to the major search engines that were free
and i see myself popup on many that i never submitted to
those type of things seem scammish to me - my rank may not be as high as i want.... but who's to say those apps will do any better
sam.moses 05-29-2002, 12:10 AM Something to know about search engines,
The rumors you've heard about search engine submission are greatly exagerated. Search engines run at over %100 capcity %100 of the time. This means that the chances of your site getting listed and staying listed are slim to null. Search engines do not offer targeted advertising. They are generally key word based, which means that you can work hard to get listed in those 400 search engines. 355 of which no one will ever see, for non targeted advertising that will show up in their top 60000, that may not be there next week. Hey, it's your money. For the cost of one search engine submission, you can purchase targeted banner or text advertising that has a much higher success rate that may bring less traffic, but it will be of a much higher quality. Unless you're selling banner ads, it's not about how many hits you get. It's about how many people pay for your service.
Just a thought.
nuthin 05-29-2002, 01:27 AM If your site is not optimized for maximum search engine exposure their's no point in paying anyone. (optimization of a site is just not meta tags, what most people probably think) .
Search engines not targeted? wtf.. If you target the right keywords then mostly every search conducted through a search engine brings you targeted traffic which can easily convert into sales.
I do seo(search engine optimization) for a living and some of you's will be very suprised on how much $$ some of our clients have made through search engine success.
As for that Bsubmit service OKIhost, I would personally be very careful with them, There service is all automated not manually done, And it's just that search engine "submission" not truly "optimization" of your website .
Its a fact 400 search engines or whatever who cares, 90% of traffic from search engines come through yahoo, google and msn, Then altavista, lycos, alltheweb, inktomi etc.
Listen to JayC and his posts, he seems to be knowledgable.
-> Pay inktomi through positiontech.com or ineedhits.com instead if your on a slender campaign.

Again, bcentral uses Inktomi, along with a bunch of other pretty much worthless minor search engines and directories. Besides the higher price, there's a big disadvantage when you use them rather than one of the "pure" Inktomi submission partners: you can't change the url of your submission, you can only add new pages. When you're dealing with an Inktomi partner directly and have paid for, say, 10 pages, you can change which pages those are any time you want to.
By the way, June 1 is an important date for anyone using the Inktomi paid spidering program with more than one domain. After that date you'll only be able to change the url of paid pages to another page within the same domain. Bad news for those of us who place client pages through one big account!
nuthin 05-29-2002, 08:51 PM + the exposure of a inktomi listing will be questionable, with netscape already using google and aol heading that way in summer.
Only real traffic would be through a good listing in inktomi's database so the traffic from msn can deliver potential traffic, But still then inktomi results in msn are only minor compared to looksmart/overture, Just got to target the right keywords and hope you don't get buried within msn.
inktomi is buying for yahoo's secondary results, as yahoo is probably one of google's main competitors i wouldn't be suprised if this happens, But then again if yahoo goes this way.. the quality of results will not be as good and probably everyone will be pissed off with yahoo, and in the end they could potentially lose some search users, As google relevancy compared to inktomi in my opinion is alot better.
I would personally wait and see to pay inktomi, At least until they pick up another major partner* but if you must have a good listing in msn and don't want to go the ppc with overture and the very pricey looksmart, then inktomi is your next best bet.
