View Full Version : Advice me good domain appraisal services
Greetings!
I have set of domains, I have booked them last week only so they are pretty new and no website hosted on them. I want to go for professional domain appraisal for few of them, pleases give me advice which is the best domain appraisal service that has been recognized and accepted by the industry.
You may tell me your experiences also regarding the same. So far I have sedo.com in my mind for the appraisal but I am not too sure about it. It seems their reputation in general is to evaluate the domain on a higher side so that they can get fat commission on the sell.
PS: Mod’s please move this post if this is not the rite place, I have not posted it on "domain" forum as its not an advertise. I just need some advice.
Thanks

Moved to Domain Name Forum, which is for discussion of issues related to domain names.

If you truly want to know the value of your domains, there is NOT any professional appraisal on earth at all. Of course, if you just want some paper work done (for asset evaluation, etc.), then Sedo should *look* fine.
dmaven 10-17-2005, 08:56 AM There is NO GOOD appraisal service. Your best bet is to frequent the good domain related forums and post it for appraisal since some pretty experienced people visit there all the time
etechsupport2 10-17-2005, 09:57 AM I agree most of the appraisal are useless. Even if you look in the real world the appraisal of a kind of good has very low credibility it don't have much to do with the actual value or the value on which you want to sell it. I agree that if you post it for appraisal in domain forum you might get good overview on it.
Does that mean that domain appraisal is a myth , and there is nothing like this exist ??
Then how one can justify the premium attached to a domain. I have seen domains sold it thousands of dollars.
Someone needs to throw more light here, I have absolutely no clue what’s going on in this area.

You don't justify pricing your domains, you sell them. I have sold domains at 4 and 5 figures. The truth is: you can ask for whatever you like, but for a sale to close, you need a buyer as well.
dmaven 10-17-2005, 07:06 PM Domain appraisals are high subjective especially when the owner is doing the valuation. I have seen cases of people thinking their names were worth x,xxx, xxx when it was worth xxx
WannaBaHost 10-17-2005, 08:07 PM Save your money then hope and pray someone with alot of money to spend comes along and buys them. Even the free appraisals here and elsewhere are just as useless. As others have said it's only worth what a buyer is willing to pay and you are willing to sell it for.
so its all about getting the rite buyer and not getting the rite domin :) , this i knew before but when i tried selling one of the domain i have buyer asked appraisal documents that i did not have.
as per disscussion above anyway that documents are good for nothing , so why people wnat it ??
WannaBaHost 10-18-2005, 01:13 AM Explain to the buyer that there is no real appraisal service. There's no way anyone can compare one domain to another to reach a value. Your asking price is just that. I've bought and sold well over a thousand domains and noone has ever asked me for an appraisal.
If the buyer you are referring to is asking you to get an appraisal and making suggestions as to where to get the appraisal from it's more than likely a scam. AllForDomains is usually the ones that are behind these.
True , he is making suggestions for the same. Thanks for saving my time and money.
concreteman 10-18-2005, 03:58 AM might toss the name out here and elsewhere, not so much to get an opinion, (too varied) but to get some offers on them. You probably have an idea in your mind what you want for them, put them up for sale, (don't even bother with ebay unless you use that number for reserve) and don't sell them till you get the number you are looking for. Gone are the days of hustlin domains for the big bucks, doesn't mean there isn't money to be made in the area, just ain't quite like it was, and that is OK too.
