View Full Version : Not enough bandwidth

My current host is hostway.com. I am very happy with them.
The only problem is their bandwidth allowance and
outrageous overage charges. My site is getting busier and I
am starting to use a lot of bandwidth. I am currently on
their platinum plan: http://www.hostway.com/webhosting/platinum.htm

I need to find a host that offers at least the same
feautures, but much more bandwidth (15 gigs or more). Must
be a UNIX server (prefarably Sun Solaris, but Linux is OK).
It must have very good customer support (email is OK).
I/they must be able to change mx records (everyone.net) for
free or one time set up charge, not monthly charge. Disk
space doesn't matter that much as long as it's more than 50
megs, must have a mysql server running on a separate
machine (1 database allowed is OK). Must have php support,
php3 and up (prefarably through apache, not standalone).
Volano chat, telnet/ssh access, ftp access, traffic stats
with referrer logs (don't have referrer logs now).

All of that for up to $30/month. Tera-byte seems nice, but
can they support everyone.net? Any other host except tera-
byte?

Any host which changes MX records will be fine with Everyone.net.

HostRocket (http://www.hostrocket.com) is about the only other host which comes even barely close in terms of bandwidth usage, but unfortunately you're in that range of bandwidth where you have to pay extra for bandwidth or negotiate with your host.

Hi,
I would suggest tera-byte.com as well. They offer a bigger
allowance on bandwidth per month. You could email them to get additional info.
You might also look at http://www.hostrocket.com
they offer generous bandwidth to.
Then you can always look at the major list

If you want to be sure you get web stats from your host then I would suggest you look elsewhere than Tera-byte. They do a superb job of everything but this. They use Raq servers and they are experiencing major problems with geting the stats. You could use a free service. I have just researched a few and they give all the stats info you need but you have to either pay or put a button on your pages. They can also slow down page loading. You could also use the AXS tracking system which is a free script from http://www.xav.com/scripts/axs/

If you go with Tera-byte you will find them the most economical and you will save money if you can work around the stats problem which I hope is only temporary anyway.

http://www.ultraspeedusa.com has great packages. Might have to go with their highest package for the bandwidth, but it's still a great price. I'm going with them for my dedicated server and their support is excellent. I think they've got everything you mentioned. You'd have to check with them on the mx records.

Does Hostway charge the bandwidth per month? or is it a one time charge.

It says $5 per 100MB, but doesn't specify if it is a one time charge or a monthly charge.

Hostway charges monthly for any overage on your account. They also have file limitation, which I have never seen before. I use to host with them and was very happy with them, until I reached 5000 sites (not difficult to do with a software site and a forum) so I had to go. :)

UltraSpeed is an excellent company. You would end up paying $24.95 for 15MB, and they do have another plan if you need to increase. Their support is great as well.

OLM.net is offering 15 GB with 500 megs at http://olm.net/cnet plenty of features at 19.95/month.
