I'm not sure how to do a ROM upgrade on a MIPS box. Why do you think you need to do one?

raq2 cant be updated at least the bios cant sun has a small dump of old data for the raqs. You can install debian on raq2s very easy get an old pentium laptop to do the dirty work little actual interface is needed. Some cables a hub and some simple knowhow. Recently put debian (sarge) on my raq2 there is an update to fix the problem that you encounter when putting debian on it were it will stop transmitting data over eathernet.
