View Full Version : Need a reliable host
jpharkins 01-08-2001, 01:30 AM Hello,
I'm searching for a reliable host for a small business website thats smaller than 5mb. We are currently hosted for free through our dial-up provider at http://www.choiceedibles.com/discount, though this is really a subdomain under humboldt1.com. My requirements are basic:
at least 5mb storage,
500mb traffic,
24hr ftp,
live ph# customer service-toll free preffered,
unix servers,
30day money back,
monthly billing<$10,
no yearly contract,
T1 or faster connection,
cgi, ssi,
and no setup fee (did I leave anyting out?).
I seem to have found a site, http://www.internetplanners.com, that easily meets or exceeds these requirements for $5.95/mo, but I have found very few reviews of their service. Does anyone know of their rep., good or bad? Also, can anyone recommend a stable host that meets my requriements, and maybe compares to Internet Planners?
Thanks,
JP
Martie 01-08-2001, 01:47 AM Hi,
I dont think your requirements are going to be too hard to find. Here is a list right here in the forum which is a long list of host co.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3053
As far as the co. you mention, I have never heard of them before but you might want to use the search function, here in the forum, upper right corner, type company name in and it will bring up any postings related to them.
Good Luck
gthorley 01-08-2001, 02:25 AM Take a look at http://tera-byte.com/ also http://hostmatters.com/plans.html both are well recommended
kunal 01-08-2001, 04:55 AM Your requirements are not at all high. Some other hosts worth considering are
below10host.com ,
tera-byte.com ,
wizardshosting.com ,
ultraspeedusa.com
All the above hosts have excellent support, and are highly recommend on this board.
jpharkins 01-08-2001, 06:54 PM Thanks for everyones help. I did a search on Internetplanners on this board and unfortunately found no results. I emailed them recently to ask for a list of sites they host, and haven't heard back for a couple days! What made me interested in IP in the first place-besides meeting all my basic requirements- was the $5.95/mo with no contract, they also give you 25mb of space and 3gig transfer. Some hosts have emailed me since this post offering acceptable plans, but nothing that compares to IP. Below10host.com was the suggested host that came the closest. So now I have to decide between lack of an established reputation, and a sweet deal.
...the saga continues
-Edward- 01-08-2001, 07:05 PM http://www.Dim8.net - Might be a good host for you :).

The way I see it, this would kill off this choice for me right away. Look elsewhere. Many of the hosts listed in Martie's post ( http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3053 ) will get back to you in a matter of hours. Trust me, there is NOTHING more fustrating than having a problem and not hearing from your host for days.
There is no reason you should go with that host. This isn't a holiday, and if during business hours, they can't get back to you, look elsewhere.

I agree. If the host can't answer a simple pre sales question, what happens when you really need help? Move on to another host.

OH, come on!
I just joined the board, am hosting with these guy's (domain: homeflight.com).
Have good experiences with them, saw some people looking for the same, wanted to share this experience an than THIS!
Never will I give an advise again here! Count me out!
Chicken 01-10-2001, 07:48 PM Jona, I didn't see your messages (nor was I the one who replaced them), but possibly it was a misunderstanding. Often when new members come here and post the same message about a host, with no reference to their own domain, it is 99.9% of the time worthless spam.
Like I said, I didn't see your messages, but feel free to email moderators@webhostlink.com and maybe we can clear this up.
jpharkins 01-11-2001, 09:56 PM Thanks Chicken and UnitedTec, I completely agree. I even called their tollfree line and talked to a sales operator regarding my question of who hosts with them. She told me someone would call back with the answer in an hour, I got no reply for 3.5 hours, at which point I left work. Below10 replyed to my email in about half an hour! So, now its down now to Below10 and Urgenthost. Below10 is more well known, but Urgenthost has better prices. Looks like Below 10 after I read the most recent posts about them being down and no customer support!!! I just spoke with their live help about everyones site being down(they said all those people get a free month for their trouble), also said the Pluto server had an "outage" recently and that everything was back up now, hmmm...
