View Full Version : Confused over transfering a domain FROM NetSol

(Apologies if I am being clueless, but I have searched the NetSol site repeatedly and emailed their Support, but I am still confused)

I am trying to transfer a domain, on behalf of a client, from NetSol to another hosting provider. I have the Account information, and can view the "Manage Account" screens.

I have tried a number of approaches (the ascii Service Agreement form - which was ignored, the "Transfer ISP" Management Option - which does not exist, the "change nameserver" option looked like it does not do what I want, and emails to Support - who told me that the New Registrar must complete the transfer (the new registrar then asked me to find out how to transfer the domain - hmmm))

To cut a long story short, I am confused. There seem to be all sorts of conflicting instructions, and NetSol seems to have a passive-aggressive approach to relinquishing control over domains. Or it could just be that it is obvious, and I am thick.

Either way, I would love some feedback from anyone here who can point me in the right direction (even if it is to give up and become a goat farmer or something;)

Many Thanks!

Hi,

The easiest method is to use a Domain Registrar to transfer your domain out of NSI, I would recommend www.000domains.com

Just click the "Transfer Domain" button on the left menu, they will submit your application with the details to NSI and NSI will send you the confirmation transfer form to approve the transfer to your new domain registrar.

Hope this helps

Yes, dealing with NetSol can make anyone feel like a clueless dolt.

Just to be clear, are you transfering the domain to a different registrar, or just changing where the site, itself, is hosted?

If you are changing registrars (a very good idea), then do as cactus said, and initiate it from the new registrar (I have had great experience with gkg.net (http://gkg.net)). Just make sure the domain owner's email address in whois is still a working, accessible address, since that is where all confirmation emails will go.

If you are just changing where the web site is hosted, you need to use the "change ISP" option, which is there somewhere. You are correct that the "change nameserver" option is not relevant here.

In either case, if the contact email address is wrong, you're up against a confusing tangle of emails/faxes/forms/etc. Give them a call to walk you through it. I have found them helpful over the phone and have not had to wait long on hold.

Many Thanks for the pointers!

Yes, I am trying to change Registrars, not just the site hosting.

I asked the potential new registrars if they would handle the transfer, and their response was along the lines of 'yes, can you provide instructions on how to do it?' - given that NetSol are the domain daddies, that sort of question seemed a bit ominous ;)

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions, and for the reassurance.

Are you sure your not asking web hosting companies that offer affiliated domain name registration to transfer the domain, as opposed to an acredited registrar?
If that's the case; I would advise against it. Go with someones' suggestion for a new registrar and transfer your domain that way.

I think NetSol tries to make things as confusing and complicated as possible. (easier for them to keep your domain that way) :D

A couple more affordable registrars you may want to consider are www.stargateinc.com and www.godaddy.com .

Good luck!

The confuision everyone has is that you generally don't have to do anything with NetSol if you are transferring away from them (you may have to reply to an email confirming the transfer, but nothing is initiated at NetSol).

Typically, you'd just go to your future registrar's site and choose 'transfer domain name' (instead of 'register new domain') and they'd pretty much handle everything from there. As I said, you might have to confirm the transfer via replying to a NetSol email.

One of the most frustrating things we deal with is transfers from NetSol. It's not something that generally goes the first time - in fact we often have to submit the transfer three or four times.

Customers don't get the confirmation mail.

Customers reply to the confirmation mail and the transfer is rejected.

Customers reply to the confirmation mail and nothing happens.

Then we'll submit it again, and no confirmation mail is sent, but the transfer magically goes through.

I'd guess that 50% of our NetSol transfers fail on the first attempt.

It's amazing.

I use dotster for this and it costs 11.95 to transfer but the whole process works well. Just make sure you copy the exact info in the whois and you will be ok.
