View Full Version : does anyone know howto transfer domain out of 1and1?
jt2377 10-14-2005, 05:18 AM their step confused the jeebus out of me. they want to me send them fax or something written in order to transfer?
can someone who have transfer domain out of 1and1 give me some easy step to follow so i won't lost my domain to 1and1 blackhole?
dmaven 10-14-2005, 09:31 AM I think you initiate a transfer from the gaining registrar as usual, I think they require a fax verification form as further proof
vision-internet 10-14-2005, 12:21 PM Ok here's what I did, it was some time ago but should not fo changes much.
1. Go to https://contract.oneandone.co.uk and login using you account name and password.
2. Locate the domain you would like to transfer out. Here there should be 2 options "cancel" and "transfer"
3. Select the transfer option and fill in the details ( new registrar ect) make sure you do not selcet the cancel option or you may have problems transfering the domain to the new registrar
4. you will then need to print the form, sign it and fax it back to 1&1. Once they get the form back they will release the domain.
Please note you can only transfer out an add-on domain with 1&1. If this domain is the only domain on the account the process is a little different.

did this work for you?
fewcoin 10-14-2005, 12:49 PM I've transferred a few domains OUT of 1&1. Unless somethings changed, all you do is unlock the domain and initiate the transfer at the gaining registrar. That's it.
But to transfer INTO 1&1, it's another story, you have to fax a form to them. (I've never done it, would rather pay a couple dollars more somewhere else rather then mess with this).

You would imagine they would like to get the names transfered over, why make it difficult
fewcoin 10-14-2005, 01:07 PM Hi dmaven, Yea I know, I told them once it's crazy they require this fax thing and that they are losing lots of domains.

vision-internet 10-14-2005, 03:37 PM Yea this worked for my. They would not release the domain without the fax at the time. Sounds like things have changed now.
I would first try unlocking the domain as was advised by fewcoin. The worse that can happen is the transfer fails and the domain says with 1&1 and you end up having to take the fax route.
jacksony 10-14-2005, 03:47 PM hey! is 1&1 domains good? is it a good company? or stable enough?
vision-internet 10-14-2005, 04:00 PM 1&1 are ok they look to be a very stable company. But you have very little control over any part of you account. If you just what to host a basic site and not play around with it then there fine.
However if you want a hosting plan that will give you the option to change as your site evolves then there not so good.
jt2377 10-14-2005, 04:06 PM i don't have a fax machine. how do i fax the signed forum to get my domain out of 1and1?
jacksony, IMO, 1and1 suck. that's why i'm getting my domains out of 1and1 and i don't wish to lose it in the transfer as i have heard a lot of horror story about transfering domain with 1and1. they put in place a very complicated steps to keep you with them.
i don't have trouble transfer with godaddy but 1and1...i dunno. i hope my domain won't get suck into the blackhole.... :(

They are large and stable.
vision-internet 10-14-2005, 07:13 PM Do you have a scanner ? If so you could print off the form, sign it , then scan it in to your PC and if you are using windows XP, you could then use the windows fax tool to send the form back to them.
However I would first try to unlock the domain and then transfer it over at the gaining registrar as was advised by fewcoin. If this works there will be no need to go down the fax route !
jt2377 10-15-2005, 02:44 AM no scanner either. i have a laser printer.
this sux. :(
e-view 10-15-2005, 04:59 AM jt2377>> do you have working account? Can you login? Then all you have to do is unlock domains and initiate transfer. Dont bother yourself sending a fax.
We transfered few of them last week and it went ok.

yeah, i have a hosting account with them but since i got my own server now i don't want to waste money on their sorry *** service and retarded webemail interface.
on their website faq, it stated you need to fax them and sign it otherwise they won't do it.
they really suck trying to pull something like this from stopping you to jump ship.
e-view 10-15-2005, 06:43 AM So you dont have domain control panel? :/

Control-panel is quite new thing. I remember HOSTING w/o any panels, let alone domain business. E-view, you're probably too young to remember internic's emails, where you just fill the text form and send it and Internic (manually?) processes it (or not...) within a week or so...
THAT were the times...

Hehe, we having actually those time here, in Lithuania. Litnet, company responsible for domain names manage everything manually. You send letter and they 'll change nameserver or whois in a couple of days. Imagine, there is a lot of paperwork :D

This is gonna change VERY SOON (in a matter of months, if not weeks). At least for ISPs.

We (e-view and me) were speaking about Litnet, a .lt cTLD supervisor. An off-topic discussion for which I'm sorry.
Trust all is ok now... :)
