View Full Version : Time to get a new mouse, suggestions?
NetXL 04-16-2002, 07:42 AM Well, after 2 years of use out of my $3 mouse, I need a new one. It's an A4Tech, it rocks.
It lived through my drum beats :)
I use the tip as a hi-hat and the whole thing as the snare. Like tap the mouse on the mousepad on its tip, or the whole thing. It is really quite effective. Anywho, now when I use the thumb button, the mouse stops moving, and I need to either hit it really hard a couple of times, or unplug it and plug it back in. Weird?
Anway, I need a new mouse. One of those infra red (?) mice I think, need a good one for my photoshopping.
Cheers,
diederik 04-16-2002, 08:10 AM I have a Logitech iFeel mouse ( won it on a contest ), it's an optical mouse, and it rocks :D
NetXL 04-16-2002, 09:36 AM That's an interesting concept, but I don't really find the idea of my mouse vibrating appealing.
Looked at the dual-optical mouseman. It looks like it may become uncomfortable to use with the sticker, and different segments on it.

Though I like the thumb button (my A4tech has one, use it all the time)
Another Logitech one that looks kinda cool; http://www.logitech.com/cf/products/productfeatures.cfm/94
Though i'm not sure about the plastic rim around the mouse buttons, I can't press the top corner or anything, hm

Seems big and bulky, not too appealing, I like mid-sized ones.

This one is the winner so far, but no thumb button :(
Zorbs 04-16-2002, 09:45 AM it's gotta be a Logitech. Right now I'm using their basic wheel optical and it works great. They're virtually indestructable.

That would be an excellent choice. I've have one of those myself for the laptop for over three years now and never had a problem with it. It's not too bulky. The body rides up into the palm of your hand so feels odd at first. But a few hours using it you start to realize the genius of the design. Your hand ends up molded to it and provides excellent support. I have more wrist issues with a flatter mouse than that one. The Intellimouse I own is almost worn to plain grey now it's been used so much. :)
It's accuracy is great - use it in photoshop myself.

NetXL 04-16-2002, 10:12 AM Greg,
Do you find having so many buttons on it annoying. I see the shape of the explorer is lowwer and longer than the http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/io_info.asp
Though, I dont know if i'd prefer the single thumb button that the io has rather than the two that the ie has.
akashik 04-16-2002, 10:38 AM not really. I actually don't use the thumb buttons at all. They're not really in the way as they're placed just above where your thumb sits naturally on the side of the mouse.
So for me it's just left, right, and scroll wheel.

NetXL 04-16-2002, 10:49 AM I see, my current mouse has a thumb button which I use to scroll. I never throught about scrolling with the scroll wheel.
  :stickout
akashik 04-16-2002, 10:57 AM *lol*
I *have* to have a scroll wheel. In fact I notice my usual position for my pointing finger is generally on the wheel rather than the left button. I was at a public library a few months ago going through their catalog and found myseld scratching at the area between the buttons trying to scroll the page. Using the actual scroll bars on a window is almost a foreign act to me now.

NetXL 04-16-2002, 11:06 AM I know what that's like. Although i'm always pressing the thumb button, and when it's not there I freak out. Scroll wheels are probably good, i've never had the privelage of owning one. I guess a good keyboard and mouse is very important.
My keyboard is really good, it's a Clipper Lite or something. Kinda like the old keyboards, no gray buttons though. The buttons are like, clip-in. Really easy to clean, none of the letters have worn off. Great for $6aud.
Well, it's now IO or IE. Which one shall it be?
(Gotta love my posts after midnight. There's no real structure to them, and my spelling is bad. ;))
TimPD 04-16-2002, 11:25 AM I'm another one that recommends http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/io_info.asp. I have the mouse and LOVE IT!.
akashik 04-16-2002, 11:41 AM I use a Belkin keyboard - love the thing. Very easy to type on and has upped my word-per-minute quite a bit :) Mainly though I dig it for the attached button. It's a suspend button, and I never use it, but it looks cool. Only wish it really did make coffee.

i have two dual optical mouseman mouses (logitech) and i love them!! they cost arround 50$ (i got my two for that price, long story)
i suggest you get this mouse, has 4 buttons, and it isnt bad
i suggest you look into this one before you buy a MS mouse
Zorbs 04-16-2002, 07:38 PM I had one of those $80 cordless Logitech keyboards, it died after about 8 months, thankfully it was still under warranty and I got a full refund :D
Since I go through keyboards like Kleenex, the $5 model does the job for me.
If there is only one thing that Microsoft makes really well, it's a mouse.
I've used the Intellimouse (optical) at work and at Uni and it just feels fabulous and easy to use. Highly recommended.
Dogma 04-17-2002, 12:11 AM Has anyone here had any experience with a Wacom Tablet/Mouse? <http://www.wacom.com/graphire/index.cfm>
I need a new mouse too and I'm thinking a tablet might be cool...and if you can get both...very nice.

Awesome, it fits the contour of your hand perfectly. very comfortable.
I like this one:

NetXL 04-17-2002, 06:05 AM Looks like it'll be the IE.
TimPD 04-17-2002, 09:47 PM You will love it. I just love the feel of the mouse and how you dont have to clean that stupid ball everytime you want to use it and blow it out err it gets annoying.
Mester 04-17-2002, 11:09 PM Its not optical (though there are optical equivilants from them) but I have a Logitech iTouch cordless mouse/keyboard. Cost me $100 ($65USD) and its been great for over a year! Super comfortable and I find it more accurate than the laser mice that I've used (dunno why/how) :D
Whitaker 04-17-2002, 11:53 PM You can't go wrong with the optical intellimouse.... I've had mine for quite awhile and I love it.
NetXL 04-18-2002, 12:47 AM Just ordered the MS intellimouse explorer 3.0
Thanks for the help everyone :)
