Having trouble finding a decent web host.

I've tried the various directories/resources on the net - thought I was being pretty clever. WRONG!!! I signed up with esitehost, (who I found using Bigbytes), & now I'm with NetisNet (UK Web Hosting Directory). They're both crap, & I'm desperately searching for an alternative.

Does anyone know of any RELIABLE sources for choosing a host? NetisNet were in the UK Web Hosting Directory Top 25 & they got a good review, but they're nothin' short of pathetic.

Fortunately I'm only in the process of setting up my business, so it's not hurt me, just caused me loadsa stress & wasted time.

Can anyone help?

From experience I would highly recommend either Futurequest or VenturesOnline. I have an account with each of these right now. Both are VERY reliable and have great tech support. VO is a little cheaper and has awesome support so I would probably go with them.

Unless you are looking for a UK Host, then I can't help.

Andyc,

Guess what? I will recommend Futurequest and VO also, but i dont have any account with them :( Futurequest will definately not allow my site, spiky forum with 130 ONLINE users and if i go VO, i need to go on V650 plan which cost $65. That is expensive considering i'm using 5GB of transfer a month.

PixelRat,

At the toss of a coin, choose between one of this host and it will be 3rd time lucky :D . However, VO are cheaper though.

Add www.site5.com to your consideration also.

I think the best directory is http://www.tophosts.com :)
Top 25 are generally great :)

I would not really trust any host directory site especially a top 25 listing. Almost all of the hosts listed in those are only the biggest advertisers. This doesnt mean those are bad hosts , just the ones that decided to advertise. This also leaves hundreds of good quality hosts out there that you will never hear about. I would start with a little research here on this board and other public areas where clients actually discuss hosts as opposed to hosts promoting themselves.

Yes, dont trust those webhosting directory :D Money talks there. Some of the company listed are good while some are not. If i remembered correctly, ***** was on the list of TOP 25 when i visited one.

***** is on a bunch of them. But those top25 things are a good start in searching for a host. That's just my opinion anyway. ;) Boards like these are okay, because usually the majority flock here only because they're dissatisfied with their host.

The only thing webhosting directory's are usually good for it getting the biggest most expensive commercialized host.. Over there it's all about how much $$$ you can pay per click.. You can have the sloppiest support in the world but if you have $10.00 to pay per click you can get right out in front of the rest.
