View Full Version : What is this guy doing?
UnitedTec 01-07-2001, 08:36 PM With Human Click I can view when a visitor enters our site and where he goes. I've got a visitor on the site now that has been there for about an hour. He opens a new browser window about every 10 seconds, stays for about 10 seconds, and then closes it, and always on the same 2 pages. What is he trying to accomplish?
TheComputerGuy 01-07-2001, 08:41 PM Well I got and sometimes leave a browser on. When i am considering a host. But not everyone is not like me, I dont leave the browser on for an hour.
UnitedTec 01-07-2001, 08:44 PM He's not leaving the browser open. Right now he has 27 browser windows open for just 2 different pages. He closes a few, and then reopens some more for the same 2 pages.
TheComputerGuy 01-07-2001, 08:53 PM Well too bad you can't find out his email or something to actuall find out what he is doing. Think i may do the same thing.... Just kidding
HyperBaseball 01-07-2001, 09:00 PM He could be using a fake surf program with two URLs on your site set as the ones to open.
Not that I know anything about fakesurf programs.. :)

Haven't they died a slow painful death yet :)?
United...its possible he is copying your page...and being very sloppy about it ;). I know that when I do scripting work for people I will refer to their page to copy the design as best I can.
I don't know if that helps...but I just noticed I had 13 posts, and I really felt the need to add one more.
Spider John 01-08-2001, 01:19 AM It could also be a proxy server doing that, caching the parts of the page as it goes along. AOL does this, for example, and it gives the appearance of multiple users on a site.

Dylan 01-08-2001, 03:24 PM It's a SPIDER!
TheComputerGuy 01-08-2001, 07:41 PM Yeah that alladvantage thing or cash surfer thing makes sense. But last i ever heard about anything like that they found ways to find out if ya had an idler. So...find out who he has an account with.
mybiz 01-08-2001, 11:11 PM No, its a HumanClick bug. They are using Netscape right?
With Netscape versions lower than 4.75 I think it reloads the HC code every 10 seconds.
You can see it with netscape.
Hehe, you should hear the story how I figured this out.
I had a guy that did that the first time and left it there for like 5 hours. It was driving me nuts, ding dong, ding dong.
I traced him back thinking he was trying to hack me or something and then called the office where the computer was.
Hehe, he just left his computer on with my website in his browser.
hehe...
klisis 01-08-2001, 11:57 PM Yes, I face same thing with netscape 4.7 or lower.. Non-stop ding dong does drive me nuts.
akashik 02-20-2001, 03:49 PM I'm currently having my first experience with this Netscape bug... Exactly as mentioned above, only it's because of Netscape 4.76.
To anyone who hasn't had the fun of this, it's quite the attention breaker :)

Boksoft 02-20-2001, 04:15 PM I currently have three ding-dong people at my site. Another 5 minutes and I'm going to turn it off!!!
akashik 02-20-2001, 04:23 PM I wonder if it's the same guy

iboxhosting 02-21-2001, 12:28 AM HumanClick has a feature where you can request to speak to the person at your site correct? try that but it looks like it is a problem wit Netscape versions
kunal 02-21-2001, 12:48 AM hehe.. Netscape does it again.. any linux users having the same problem with there netscape?
Ironlung 02-21-2001, 03:02 AM I am in the same boat as klisis.
Nashoba 02-21-2001, 03:17 AM I thought UnitedTec abruptly went out of business. Are you now back in business?
acetate 02-21-2001, 04:33 AM I hate Netscape (period)!
cbaker17 02-21-2001, 09:24 AM We had the same thing It would drive us crazy, its actually a anoyance script that someone runs that refresh's pages so many seconds, people usually do it on purpose to piss you off...

Actually yeah I tried to tag them a few times to no avail. I guess as the pages roll through by the time the call gets to them the page in question has been reloaded so they don't see it.
With luck it's a dying problem. As people upgrade or change to IE the percentage should drop. Right now we get less than 10% Netscape viewers. Our targeting is more business orientated and most of them seem not to bother with the hassle of installing Netscape over IE *thankfully*

interservermike 02-21-2001, 11:23 AM i had to overwrite the ding-dong file with a blank wav file. A man can only take so much.
Plus one time a customer asked if i had to go get the door over the phone.
