Just wondering what people thought about the price rise of GearHost's (http://www.gearhost.com) plans. At first glance people might think this makes them seem like a more honest reliable host, just because they aren't offerenign loads of space and bandwith for dirt cheap anymore. Now it just cheap.

Lol, they're probably going to go chapter 11, watch and see them rise by $5-week. :cartman:

This is how I see it. To start out a webhosting company, you have to have attractive plans to get new customers. Since people don't know you or trust your services, the only thing that can get them to sign up with you is your plans. However, once you've been in the business for a while and have built a solid reputation, then you can start charging for that! You should raise your prices enough so that you can pay for your own facility, additional staff, etc, etc.

Even with the price changes they offer a lot for the price still. Patience brings it's rewards. And with their stats & databases more fully automated I'm glad that I signed up with them already, despite a few unhappy customers on here.

They said they would make the pricing increase at 10,000 domains.

Getting 10,000 customers in under a year would be almost impossible on their budget. Not just them, but any host.

Doing some name server checks, it looks like they did the increase while just over 1000. Probably a little higher.

I believe the plans used to be priced as follows:

Silver - $4.95
Gold - $9.95
Platinum - $14.95

And I believe some of the features have changed as well. For example, the Platinum pan used to offer support for unlimited domains.

What you dont know is that they were asked to take over an existing client base that was fairly substansial. (sp)

Yes you are all correct we did raise the price as most knew this was going to happen. Our original pricing was promotional and are new finalized pricing is as noted above. It you look closely though you end up getting a few more features under the new plans as well but the resemble the "old/retired" plans closely.
