You should have posted this in the Job Offers and Requests (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=33) forum since people are not allowed to post offers here.

I don't think you want random do you? Wouldn't you just basically want something that gives 1 to each person on the list and when it's done it goes to the top and restarts?

no not necessarily random....let me clarify....

the script/software should take in all e-mails sent to sales@utopiahosting.com

The email will then be viewable by my sales reps, and once one of them replies to it, it is removed from the "new messages list"......somethign like that..

how do those companies that have only 1 sales address insure that only sales rep is replying to any given message??????

It sounds like you need some kind of support desk script, replacing support@domain.com with sales@domain.com
It shouldn't be too difficult to customise an existing open source script for this purpose. Have you looked on Sourceforge or Hotscripts?

What I generally do is trawl through Sourceforge and Hotscripts (in the relevant sections), applying a number of criteria:
1. Price - preferably free
2. Activity/Stability - is it still being developed? Can I get help if I need it?
3. Platform
4. Customisation
5. Installation

If it passes on the 1,2 and obviously 3, then I look at 4 and 5. I like to be able to customise if required :D
Installation used to be a problem, but if it's one of these really awkward ones I will still leave it alone...

I once consider Goldmine but it's too large for our organization.

try www.goldmine.com for a complete sales system

If you are looking for a free desk the best one out there is almost certainly perldesk. That will allow you to do the sales@domain.com type thing. For commercial offerings there are a lot of threads around evaluating different products, a search for ticket system is your best bet.

Hi,

Can't existing ticket support system like PHP Support Desk, PerlDesk or Kayako do this? I never used them but I think this is quite a simple and important feature which should be integrated in the software.

Ticketsmith and PerlDesk are both free and handle just this sort of thing (and more).

thanks for all your help, i've found perldesk to be very easy to install and in the process have also found cerberus: http://www.cerberusweb.com. This one looked a little cleaner, but could not get it to work for the life of me :(
