yes most guys use cpanel , I think most clients know how to work with Cpanel then no need to teach them about cpanel :D

Plesk is very easy to use an intuitive. It's very stable and has just as many features as cpanel. It has also shown to be more stable and less administration intensive than cpanel.

My vote is for plesk as I have seen a few others already vote that way also.

I'm dealing with a friend now that ran cPanel update and his server broke. I'm trying to help him fix it.

I would go with either Plesk or Cpanel, both have great features and very user friendly.

cPanel, in my opinion, has a good array of functions to help the administrators out, but it lacks greatly in organization.

DirectAdmin has great organization, but lacks the mass-amount of administrative functions (rebuilding the services, etc)

Plesk, from my use of it quite a while back, seems to be a good median of both worlds ;)

Cpanel is a LOT better than plesk.

Alllanonschick - Other than just giving your personal opinion how about some facts behind it from experience?

Personally I have worked with cPanel and Plesk extensively and a little bit with DirectAdmin.

I've found plesk is easier for customers to use and find the features they want. It tends to be more stable with less problems than cPanel has also.

vbrocks090, many people have only worked with one control panel throughout their time working with Web hosts or as Web hosts, so they are bound to simply say which one they use, as they have never tried any others.

I have worked with cPanel and DirectAdmin in the past, personally, I preferred cPanel, other people prefer DA, in theory, they all do very similar tasks, and all that separates them is the user interface, and the odd unique feature or two.

It really is your own personal preference. Try and have a play with all three, and see which one you like best. Better still, if you have a niche market, find out what control panel they are used to using (if any). that is assuming you will be hosting customers.

I used to work for an outsourcing company which has several webhosting clients who both used plesk and cpanel. The problem we had with plesk is that apache restarts everytime we provision a new account. It worked well with few accounts but if you have several hundreds of accounts on a single server, it took around ~30 seconds for apache to restart. Also, frontpage extensions got corrupted more often than cpanel customers. Then, if you separate say a service from that server, i.e. DNS, then it didn't work well which had worked perfectly with cpanel.

You must not have used 7.x then. The apache restart upon provisioning new accounts has been changed. I've never had frontpage extensions corrupt on 7.x either. As for seperating DNS, it's actually very easy if you know what you are doing and use a secondary DNS server to serve as primary on the DNS you want to run.

In fact Atomicrocketturtle has already setup a nice little app for that.

My guess is you were using 6.x plesk which is not the same as current versions.

Plesk has come a LONG way since their days of the very 'blah' white button layout they had way back when. I'd definitely consider them if I were choosing to start a new hosting company.

As an end-user, I preffer cpanel. Plesk is more like javascript than a control panel :)

Javascript? That is like saying windows is like Dos 1.1 or Linux is still only the original kernel built by Linus Torvald and doesn't have any features to it yet.

I don't even see how the comparison between Plesk and javascript can be made...sounds pretty rediculous I can't remember the last time I was required to code something in javascript to add a new email address via Plesk ;)
