View Full Version : UK based hosts + domain reg.
Helen 04-15-2002, 04:08 PM Hey,
I'm looking for reliable (not one that's gonna go bust in a month or something) UK based hosting company. I need to be able to pay in uk £'s 'cause I'll be using my parent's credit card and I don't want to pay the extra cost because its a different currency.
A couple of people have suggested easily.co.uk and freedom2surf.net - has anyone got any experience with either of them?
Thanks,
Helen.
alipatov 04-15-2002, 04:23 PM You might want to take a look at 34sp.com. They provide basic features for a very basic price (the rest is extra) - it may suite you current needs and they're definitely not going down. i've been with them for a while, support is good and responsive, some recent downtimes though (don't think it'll be a general trend anyway :))

Paul-UKWSD 04-15-2002, 04:36 PM For UK Hosts have a look at http://bigbytes.co.uk plenty there :)
infinite 04-15-2002, 04:50 PM Helen,
I'd steer clear off freedom2surf.net, I used to use them, and have now moved away!
It all depends if you want cheap, or quality ;)
I don't think a conversion charge will be too much, esp. if the dollar amount is cheaper anyway.

Quite. You'd get a better deal with US hosting.
http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ would be good if you need a .uk domain.
Helen 04-16-2002, 12:51 PM My mum's all flinchy about using her credit card to pay for something in dollars  My dad bought one thing online and it cost almost doube whathe thought it'd be 'cause it got all this tax and crap added.
Right, I'll stay clear of f2s and check out those other sites. Cheers :)
JustinSurfer 04-16-2002, 01:04 PM We Recommened EcommerceDiscovery to all of our clients who can pay in US$, but if you can't, I recommend UKName.net, as you can pay in £ Sterling with these, and they have some very good reviews in this forum, search for ukname and you should find some good reviews.

different currency do not generate more cost. you pay what the price is.

This is untrue.
Credit card companies exchange the dollars for pounds and do not put a charge on it.
Your fathers problems were becasue he imported physical goods and had to pay the VAT and import duty.
Therer is no VAT on web hosting services and domain names purchased from outside the European Union because the "goods" never cross the border and remain in the USA.
We spend up to £5000 per month in the US on credit card and it we are never charged anything extra.

Well, actually most of them do - around 2.5-2.75% commission, but the exchange rate is usually more favourable than a bureau de change so it evens out for tourists.
