I posted this in the web hosting forum but didn't get a reasonable answer.

The question is probably technical so here it goes:

Say I have main domain mydomain.com, and several other domains mydomainN.***, N=2..6, ***=com|org|net.

I want my other domains to point to my main domain or subdirectory.

Most hosts want me to pay $4-5 per domain per month (with several domains free), or $20-25 one-time fee per domain, which is too much for me (I have 18 domains). This is for domain pointers only, emails not forwarded.

Here is the question: if I have a *fixed ip* (or unique ip, whatever that thing is called) from my host and use friend's name servers to point my other domains to that ip, will this work?

What I do not understand why the hosts should charge that much for domain pointers that are actally several dns entries done once.

If your website is what gets shown as default for web requests to that IP address, then yes, you can have your friend point as many DNS entries to it and it'll work just fine. Easy way to tell, go to http://<yourIPaddress> and see if it loads your webpage.
