How do i go about enabling color syntax highlighting. I would like to see pretty colors for specifix syntax for perl, php, conf, etc when I'm editing my files via ssh so I installed the latest version of vim. Then I copied the sampel vimrc and the gvimrc file to my home directory and now i'm stuck. Vim is installed correctly because when I type vi it says vim 6.3, yet I don't see any colors when I'm editing files.

Whats the next step I need to take to enable color syntax highlighting. I thought those sample files had it enabled it automatically.

This has been resolved..don't bother answering it. I hadn't installed it properly.
