View Full Version : Which content management is the best?
hardjoko 10-06-2005, 06:54 AM xoops? Geeklog? or phpNuke?
If I want to create a comunity, like http://linkedin.com or http://ecademy.com, what content management should I use?
Also, can anybody tells me how to integrate stuffs? For example, can we integrate phpNuke with chat?
Which chat scripts are the best?
What content management can be integrated with phpBB?
adamneal 10-06-2005, 07:32 AM try http://www.opensourcecms.com/ and check a few out. I think a lot of it comes down to personal taste and the use you have in mind for it.
IceBlueHost 10-06-2005, 07:54 AM There's a huge amount of possibilities around there.
It all boils down to what you want to do with your CMS and what options you all need.
It's best to think about this first, and then start looking around to see which CMS fits your requirements best.
Most bulletin boards can easily be integrated into different kinds of CMS systems, it's just up to you to see which one you prefer the best.
Perhaps you could also take a look at the homepages of several CMS systems and try out their demo's to get a better feel of it.
Let us know how you get on!
solidghost 10-06-2005, 07:56 AM mkportal integrates nicely with phpbb and their default skins match each other.
etechsupport2 10-06-2005, 08:09 AM You can also check it with http://modxcms.com/ or http://www.etomite.org/
ScottJ 10-06-2005, 10:03 AM Mambo would be my pick.
KeithMcL 10-06-2005, 10:06 AM www.joomla.org - the new mambo
www.textpattern.com
www.drupal.org
www.interspire.com/articlelive/
Those are some really good ones.

hardjoko 10-06-2005, 12:19 PM PhP Nuke has a large copyright notice below. Is it mandatory? If not I want to make it smaller.
hardjoko 10-06-2005, 12:39 PM Where can I get support for PhPNuke? They don't seem to have forum.
I need chat, forum. Also I have several websites. Like http://greateducationaldeals.com/business http://howtolearnmath.com and http://greateducationaldeals.com/business . Can I create a bunch of directory structure using content management system?
Shaliza 10-06-2005, 08:04 PM I was going to say Mambo/Joomla.
PHPNuke is a pretty bad idea, IMO.
BigBison 10-06-2005, 11:25 PM Before you install PHPNuke, check out CPGNuke:
http://www.cpgnuke.com/
hardjoko 10-07-2005, 07:19 AM What's the forum for support for PhP-Nuke?
IceBlueHost 10-07-2005, 07:38 AM php-nuke has separate communites for each country. You can search them from this page: http://phpnuke.org/modules.php?name=Community
etechsupport2 10-07-2005, 07:41 AM hardjoko,
You can check also ; http://forums.postnuke.com/index.php and www.nukeforums.com
malffred 10-08-2005, 10:15 AM I second Joomla and Drupal as well. I'd head over to w ww.opensourcecms .com/ to get a better overview of your options. Communities like LinkedIn have some pretty custom features as well, not really something you'd find "out of the box".
iandc76 10-08-2005, 10:47 AM e107.org is the best! I've tried them all but nothing beats e107.
jg123 10-08-2005, 11:10 AM My vote is for Xoops, www.xoops.org
Very powerful and tons of community support, lots of add-on modules. I use it almost exclusively.

Shaliza 10-08-2005, 07:07 PM NCaster is another good one, but it's probably best for video game sites.
hardjoko 10-10-2005, 03:31 PM I am thinking of doing typo3. You're right. phpnuke sucks.
However, there is no forum support for typo3.
There is a forum support for phpbb.
hardjoko 10-14-2005, 01:10 PM Joomla is not supported by cpanel. So is typo3.
FairHoster.de 10-14-2005, 03:48 PM The best CMS is PhpKit, you can integrate the WBB2.x and Php Open Chat (POC) with extra free modules into your website and database.
Its easy to edit the templates too !

Both not entirely true BTW.

Silverwolfe 10-14-2005, 10:08 PM Hi all
Well I have used some of the one's listed. I have had a lot of luck with phpwebsite, it is simple in design but can be expanded to fit your needs. It has a bbboard that will follow the them that you are using. Real easy to costomize.

Ummm yes... almost all cms's beat e107 due to the number of bugs it has... they haven't released a 95% bug free version yet.
IF they come out with a version that is at least 95% bug free then I'll start using it again.. I like the layout of it better than any other but it sucks spending hours finding all the patches every time a new ver is released.
hardjoko 10-16-2005, 01:11 PM What is fantastico?
Silverwolfe 10-16-2005, 03:19 PM Hi hardjoko
Fantastico is a set of scripts that is a part of cpanel that will automate the install of many programs.
meaton 10-16-2005, 03:53 PM I recommend phpwcms - http://www.phpwcms.de/
hardjoko 10-17-2005, 12:29 AM Is fantastico free?
It looks like fantastico is made by a third party:

Silverwolfe 10-17-2005, 05:26 PM Hi hardjoko
To the best of my knowledge it only works with cpanel. Cpanel does require's a licence.
hardjoko 10-18-2005, 02:20 AM I am using typo. The learnign curve is insane. You can't just easily make a template. Anyone else use typo?
Silverwolfe 10-18-2005, 05:56 PM hardjolo
I did a quick qoogle search and found some likes to templates but am not alowed to post links yet. From what I read it is mostly html style templates. I myself am working with phpwebsite templetes which uses css and html and tables to format the pages.
Good luck
ravesupport 10-18-2005, 07:50 PM I've used PHPNuke, but it seems pretty tought to use if you are not computer savvy. Any thoughts?
hardjoko 10-20-2005, 11:44 AM Where can I get good typo3 templates? I know the basic of making template but I'd like to start from something already good.
