I'm at my wits end here and could use some advice.

I have a client who is now trying to transfer over another domain to our registration services. However, the old host is a reseller of Infinology.com and they appear to be a reseller or partner of Tucows.

The old host is cyberdynamicsonline.com (domain is no longer registered)

The contact info on my clients domain is set to HIS contact info at the cyber* address. And is no longer functioning. Infinology told my client they can only send login details to the email address in the whois for her domain. Which is a losing situation.

In addition, it's an .org domain. And the old host has never heard of an EPP key. And continues to tell our client it's not needed. And it can't be obtained from Infinology because of the bad email addy.

The domain expires on the 10th and will then be lost for 30 - 90 days until Tucows drops it.

What options do we have?

By the lack of replies - should I assume my client is SOL? :)

While you might be SOL, there are some things you might try..

Have you tried to contact Tucows or Infinology about the problem? Is your customer the registered name on the account? If he can prove ownership, he might be able to get it changed. What phone number was used to register the domain.

With Tucows/Opensrs you have 30 days to reregister the domain before it goes into "redemption period" after it expires. If you are a reseller your best bet would be to contact Tucows/Opensrs directly as they have great customer service for issues like this. I've had them take care of an issue like this within an hour after the client faxed in a request to transfer to our service. The previous host was not responding to the client and also had been using Tucows/Opensrs.

I think that's the biggest problem is that the old host has listed himself as the owner in the whois. Infinology won't work with my client and - at most - are willing to resend the login details to the email address listed on the whois - which is outdated. (old host's email address)

Even with the 30 days to re-register the domain, there's no way to as the old host appearantly doesnt' have their login info to their reseller area. Or is simply refusing to help. I'd imagine that if they did have access to their domains, they could update the contact email as well...

I'll make some calls to the number in the whois - though I'm expecting that to be non-working. And also to Infinology & Tucows.

Just bugs me that this guy said to the client - to let him know if there was more he could do... And there IS plenty he could do. (other than say he's never heard of an EPP and to tell me to transfer it anyway) He's just not doing it.

The Opensrs reseller interface allows you to resend the password or he could just contact his rep at Tucows/Opensrs and ask them to reset it. It's not difficult at all and don't let him get away with saying it is.

I realize we aren't supposed to do this, but check your PM box, couldn't post it here, you'll see why.

Hope you get this resolved.

why not just register the 'cyberdynamicsonline.com' address as a temp measure and setup a catchall email, then make the transfer request, authorise it and then ditch the temp domain?

tried that earlier today. All I've received an automated response telling me my ticket was opened...

This domain is very important to the client - it's plastered over all their stationary and business cards, etc...

So waiting the 30-90 days to re-register isn't an option.
The old host is a reseller of infinology - and they suspended the account pre-maturely. So even setting up a redirect is out of the question at this point.
