I was trying to find host that offers multiple domain hosting, coundn't find good one.
Basically I needed to have mydomain1.com, and for each of mydomainN.***
(N=1..6, ***=com|org|net) to have www.mydomainN.***
pointed to either mydomain1.com or subdirectory (there will be no useful content anyway)...
this seemed possible (there was a host that offered unlimited pointers, but they were using w2k,
which is not an option for me; some people quoted couple of
bucks/month or ~$20 one time fee... no way for that either.

Now, the questions:

- If I have static ip, is there any problem to use friend's nameservers
to point my other domains to this ip?

- If my host offers domain pointers is it that hard (technically) to set emails sent to
user@mydomainN.com to go to user@mydomain1.com ?

http://www.aletia.com

Aletia can do it. It's about $10/mo. The first three are free, but it's like $3 (1 time i think) each after that. I'm not sure.

Also, you might just as well look at reseller accounts. But then again, you said the subdomains/domains had no usefull content?

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about but basically you can do this:

http://www.maindomain.com
http://www.seconddomain.com

http://www.seconddomain.com is a mask for http://seconddomain.maindomain.com

so: http://www.seconddomain.com/images/ is same as:
http://seconddomain.maindomain.com/images/

just a warning though, Aletia is going through growing pains and such. SOme people would advise against them. The choice is yours. I'd also try searching the forums for "multihosting" or "domain pointers". Other than that, try a reseller account. :)

You might want to do a search for Aletia before signing up.

No, I am not going with aletia, I've read enough about them.

What I can not understand is the following:
If I have static ip, and if I use friend's nameservers to point my other domains to this ip, then all requests to my other domains will go to main domain. Is this true? If true -- why some hosts want me to pay $20-25 one-time fee per domain or $4-5 per menth per domain?

And yes, I know that the emails sent to my other domains will not go to the main, but I do not need this.

If you have a static IP (regardless of whose Name Server it resolves to) and the Server is setup properly, you can point any other Domains to your IP address -- and that's where they'll go, your IP address.

Is your IP address setup as a "Shared IP"

Yes - then you can create individual accounts for each of your other Domains.

No - then other Domains pointed at your IP address will show the same pages as if they had used your URL.

A good place to get some basic info on this is http://www.zoneedit.com . They also provide a service you might be looking for -- free DNS services. :)
