Paypal
Authorize.net

2CO as a last resort if those two fail (likely not).

Hi there,

I actually use none of the above listed. I use ProTX, which I suppose is the UK equiv of AuthorizeNET. It's just a merchant gateway and I have it attached to my Barclays Merchant Account. Works fine for me.

I do plan to accept PayPal in the future though as we get quite a few comments asking if it's possible to use that gateway to pay, but it's not going to happen over night. Their fees are high and some of their policies aren't favourable, but I guess we have to provide what customers want, so it'll happen sooner or later :)

Thanks

Authorize.net is great. :)
Paypal is used only about 10% (estimate) of the time for us.

And, most people prefer to pay via PayPal.

PayPal I will never use again. I tried them on a small site and it caused me to lose sales. Now I know they have better mechanisms in place to make it easier to use, but I talked to a few people on the phone and they flat out wouldn't use them because they didn't want them collecting any info on them. Of course I was dealing with customers that were professionals and I still do on both my sites and PayPal would just help me lose sales.

In my experienc PayPal has a "Gotcha" attitude toward it's merchants and treat them poorly. They sould be treating them as business partners since they are making them money and providing a mechanism for them to collect informatoin on their business activities and customers.

I get great service with a merchant account/gateway. I can call my gateway provider and instantly talk to a live breathing person and get instant help. I can call my merchant account provider and get a live breathing person and get instant help. I can call the card banks direct and talk to a live breathing person and get instant help.

PayPal? No Thanks, I don't want their nose in my business.

Which means that you might not be old enough to use Paypal. You have to be 18 to have a merchant account and an electronic payment gateway adn you have to be 18 to have Paypal.

Unfortunately, you have mixed electronic payment gateways with third party processors so your results will be pretty skewed.

As far gateways go, Authorize.Net has worked well for us.

Several of the ones on that list are really hybrids - being 3PP's as well as proprietary gateways tied into the 3PP.

I use PayPal mostly, but sometimes I use StormPay and MoneyBookers if customers prefer not to deal with PayPal
