I'm for a couple of weeks hosted now at Burst.net.I took them because people recommended them and because of their years of experience.I had terrible hosts in the past and was hoping to finally find a good one.It seems they are not.

Constant MySql issues and much slowdown is already bad enough, but 12 freaking hours of downtime in the last 2 days is way too much.Yesterday 5 hours already,I send in a ticket they replied they had hardware issues, today 7 hours again and so far no reply what happened. It's really sick when you pay 100$ a month(the highest shared hosting plan) and then you get something like this.

I'm at a point of totally giving up on my site, despite of all the hard work I have done so far and the community I have build.I just don't know anymore what to do.

Do a search for burst.net on this site...

While I didn't have a hosting account with BurstNET, I did have a dedicated server with them and had nothing but problems. I know it can be frustrating looking for a provider, but please don't give up. It took me four different providers until I found a place I was happy with. It seems you're willing to pay for quality, but I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I visited your site. I'm just wondering, how much disk space and bandwidth does the site use? Seems like a pretty large site with a busy forum.

Well, actually before Burst I was at Aletia and I was very very happy there, however I had outgrown my plan there and could not further upgrade anymore,so I had to move to a host which offered bigger plans.I'm using 20-25 gigs a month, and yes it can be very busy.At one point I considered dedicated, but I'm too much of a n00b to go dedicated yet,not to mention it's too expensive.
I use about 500 mb diskspace, but need more as I keep adding content.

I am willing to pay money, but then I need good service and customer support and please no more downtime like this:(
I also was on Hostrocket in the past which was a complete nightmare.

Just because you've had bad experiences with a few web hosts, I think it would be sad to kill your site -- believe me, there ARE good hosts out there (Ventures Online, for example, is very good, as well as a lot of smaller hosts that hang out here).

And for $100 a month, you could get a dedicated server even.

I got a reply, they are willing to offer me a dedicated server for the same price and bandwidth I have now because my account is large and so I won't interefered with other users.
What to think about it?

That does indeed sound like a fair offer. What are the specs of the server, and how much bandwidth is included?

I'll asked them the specs,I'm just waiting for a reply now.
But here's the first message I got:

Dear Sir,

We're very sorry for the downtime on the server that you are currently hosted on, which is Mondale. The server experienced some hardware issues, and they have been resolved. I would like to compensate you for the downtime by offering you 1 month of hosting service for starters. Also, your account does seem to be rather large in proportion. I'd like to work with you on a better solution. I see from your original inquiry that a dedicated server looked too expensive for you. What I can offer you is a dedicated server. It would be a small server, and I'll match the bandwidth to what you are currently allocated on your hosting plan. I will give you the same price that you are paying on the shared account, that way you are not interfered with by other users, etc. If this seems like a workable solution, please let me know, and I'll be happy to take care of this for you. I realize that shared hosting can be a burden at times with sharing resources with others, and perhaps this would be a good chance for you to begin dedicated hosting at a reasonable rate. Please do let me know. I thank you for your time and patience.

Sincerely,
Matthew McCormick
Customer Service Manager

Ok,I got a reply with the specs:

PII 400 with 128MB RAM and I keep my 50 gigs bandwidth.
The price is still the same 100$ as my shered account was,and I don't need to pay a setup fee,+ ofcourse complete root access and managed which means they install the nessacary patches and upgrades.

It seems like a very good deal, and they were very friendly.

That's not a bad offer, all for yourself to use. Also, I've dealt with Matthew when he was with DI (DialtoneInternet) while I was at my last job, and he was one of the people there that actually was good to deal with (unlike some technicians at DI) and knew what he was doing. It can't hurt to give it a try anyway.

Hi there mate,

You definately DONT NEED a dedicated hosting. Since you are paying $100 a month, why not give VenturesOnline a try. You can be setup in 15 minutes and it is only $65.

http://www.venturesonline.com/hosting/v650.html

There will be many happy customer willing to vouch for their service if you ask around. From what i read, support emails are answered less than 1 hour.

Dont give up your site because of a host. I know that feeling because i'm in the same situation as you. But you have the $$$ to pay for a quality service while i dont.

A more expensive host to look at would be www.futurequest.com. So far, i have never read anyone complaining about their service. Take a look at their server uptime. 100% for a few months. People hosting there only leave until they outgrow their plan. Some are even keep paying extra for extra MB of space and GB of transfer.

I definitly take this chance,as it's finally my chance to have a dedicated server and learn new things.

Edit, yes DJ I saw Venturesonline before, however I'm a little tired of moving a +500mb site and reinstalling all those scripts every few months,I'll take their deal and see how it goes,if it doesn't work out I still can consider moving.

But thanks everybody though for the comments.

Not a problem mate. If you are scared of moving, i think you can request help from VO and ask them to move it for you. It is the same process Burstnet doing now, moving you off a server and putting you on another server. If i'm not wrong, if you have SSH logon, you could ZIP everything up and then unzip everything in the new server. For those who knows, i think moving a site took less than 15 minutes.

Anyway, good luck on your dedicated server.

I don't think I realized where he went off to (or that he left), but good to know where he landed...

Hey Everybody,

I've been real quiet since arriving at Burst. Just an update, I left DI (Dialtone) in Januray, initially to pursue other interests, but I just can't stay away... :bawling: I just missed it too much. Everyone who knew me, mind you I never posted, but worked with people privately, just wanted to say hello. Chicken and Matt Freeman, thanks for all the help you've given me through the years. Tim Greer, it was always a pleasure, and thanks for the kind words. Everyone else, hello again, and I look forward to working with you. Just so you know, I don't really work through threads, but privately 1 on 1. If there's an issue I would like to help, sometimes it takes time to get things resolved, but I will work on them until complete. My addition to Burst NET is to oversee as Customer Service Manager / Sales Manager. We are in the middle of restructuring, adding much needed support staff to all shifts (especially night and weekend). In the past few months, the staff size has doubled, and will continue to be added as we find qualified individuals to work in support. The physical datacenter has been expanded, and offices added in the back to encompass all the new additional staff members. Future plans of expansion are in the works as we are growing quickly, and need the additional room. The server that Edgar is on has a 14 month uptime of 99.17% including the datacenter move, and router downtime. I don't want to make excuses for anything in the past, most if not all occurred prior to my employment, and I can't speak about what I was not involved with. The same guidelines and service policies I created previously are being developed internally as we speak, but these things do take time. The result will speak for itself (I hope) :D and I look forward to the exciting new challenge ahead of me. Edgar, I will work the rest of everything as I explained through e-mail with you. Glad I could assist. Sorry I've been so long-winded everyone, I just wanted to get my foot in the door. Yeah I know I'm posting as a newbie, but I'm sure that will change too. Best of luck to everyone, and look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,
