View Full Version : Need host *like* Aletia BUT! With multi-domain hosting too! Suggestions?
timbo 04-13-2002, 04:52 AM Remember the good old days with Aletia? Well, I need to move some (not all) of my sites over to a different hosting company simply because they are pretty critical and I cannot afford to wait 2-3 weeks for a support request to be answered ;)
What I need is a cheap ($10 a month cheap!) hosting package from a LONG STANDING company (please, no new companies) that allow multi-domain hosting on every account and a good support level.
So, for my $10 a month I can get basically 3 different Web sites hosted - just like Aletia allow.
Anybody with any suggestions?
avara 04-13-2002, 07:27 AM Are you also looking for the same amount of bandwidth and disk space? I think one of the reasons Aletia has so many problems is because they are overselling a great deal on bandwith especially.

You might want to raise your budget or lower your expectations. Sure, $10 may get you good service at lots of places, but you won't get what Aletia is offering. If you do find a host like that, hold on to your hat.
Acsiak - Andrew 04-13-2002, 07:50 AM Timbo, you may want to try WiseHosting, http://www.wisehosting.net/hosting/index.html
They look good, seem good and their plans and prices are great. Just what you are looking for I think. I'm going to signup with them soon.
I'm not sure if they entirely give what Aletia is giving but it's near enough since I too was going to go with Aletia when they were great- then decided not to for some reason and I just got hosted by a friend, (He even charged me- the insanity of it all).
But anyway, try them out if you want. They're great- and have been around since 1996 from what I can tell, so hopefully no chance of them doing an Aletia!
nelix 04-13-2002, 07:56 AM try www.hostnexus.com they are the best in the business as far as im concerned when it comes to multi-hosted domains;)
their NexBusiness account lets u host 3 domains - for only $54.95 a year
timbo 04-13-2002, 08:26 AM Thanks Anjay and nelix for the tips!
Wisehosting:
They look VERY good but they don't give people dedicated IP addresses - that's a shame. :(
Hostnexus:
Look great, but the bandwidth is way too low for me
Arggghhhhh! ;)
Website Rob 04-13-2002, 09:48 AM I think you need to be more specific as to what services you are looking for with your $10 a month.
Three Domains pointing to one site is not a problem, but without knowing the specs, it's very hard to a good answer.
timbo 04-13-2002, 09:57 AM True! I need about 200meg and around 10-15 gig a month transfer plus PHP/mySQL and excellent support ;)
kadyellebee 04-13-2002, 09:17 PM I'm moving out of Aletia into a reseller of HostingMatters.com - and my set up was down so fast that it made Aletia look even worse than it already does!!!
I'm already really impressed with HM and did alot of research before I made that decision. I only wish I had made the decision LAST weekend so I wouldn't have had to deal with the hard drive blowup fiasco that Aletia's Scorpion customers have had the last few days!!!!
I don't know the absolute specifics on multi-hosted domains, but when I asked Christine of Blogomania.com (the reseller I'm going through), she said I was only limited to the number of multi-hosted domains as I have subdomains allowed on my account.
So maybe check them out :)

Stace 04-13-2002, 09:33 PM Is that you Kristine? I thought I recognized you! You've got the same "Scorpion Scars" I do. LOL
;)
kadyellebee 04-13-2002, 10:05 PM Yep, its Kristine of love-productions!
I wear my scorpion scars, and have worn them for way too long!
This is my first post over here, but I've lurked for a long time, even before from when I moved from No Monthly Fees (ugh!) to Aletia, and now I'm moving for a third time for what I hope will be a long stay!
Hi Stace ;)

genaldi 04-13-2002, 10:10 PM Kristine,
You'll be very happy with the server performance at hostingmatters, very reliable and their support staff is very prompt and knows what they're doing! May Scorpion rest in peace :)
Good luck,

twcinpa 04-14-2002, 07:11 AM What is this, an Aletia alumni club?
Tom
timbo 04-14-2002, 07:27 AM Yeah, I've used hostingmatters before - a good company, but my needs are bigger ;)
Alumni? I wouldn't call it alums, since that's a positive connotation.
Anyway, try http://www.site5.com
They have multihosted which they call "domain pointers"
Check out their plans:

Try them, I'm afraid to say they are better than WiseHosting. They have great support, they have 24/7/365 online support, meaning they have online chat support 24 hours per day, everyday- even christmas, easter and other such holidays; that is support for you. I've spoken to them afew times about pre-sales questions, they have been very helpful and a great help- friendly and certainly superb. The first time I visited the site, after five minutes they contacted me to see if I needed any help and I didn't even request any, now that is certainly determination for good support. They have great offers and deals- certainly something not to miss out on, they also accept PayPal among other types of payments just in case you cannot pay by CC, I've now decided to go with them since I can only pay by PayPal and WiseHosting do not accept PayPal- plus since I'm in the UK I need support for my time and eShore give 24/7 support meaning I can get the support I need- they are friendly and give prompt answer. You should check 'em out if you are still looking.
