OK we have a few UUnet T1's and a T3 from some one else. UUnet sends us these reports for bandwidth once a week and I have asked to tell me what the hack they mean but they never do a good job at it.. Here is a copy of what they send us. If any one has a line from UUnet or knows who to read to see how much of a T1 we are using I sure could use some help...

UUNET Weekly Utilization Report for Vortech
12/24/00 - 12/30/00

Account Number: u51517
Average: 7K
80th Percentile: 10.6K
95th Percentile: 28.4K
99th Percentile: 54.6K
Maximum: 84.1K

The statistics for Tiered and Burstable customers are derived by taking a sample of the customer traffic every five minutes on the in and out packets sent/received on the customer's UUNET connection. These statistics are then aggregated over a (daily, weekly, monthly) period where the top (20%, 5%, 1%) of the traffic is discarded to arrive at the (P80, P95, P99) flow statistic. Metered customer's statistics are derived by calculating the total in and out octets on the customer's UUNET connection.

We have UUnet as well and said the same thing when we first saw the reports. We went on their website (can't remember exactly where) and found how to figure it out.

They have their routers set to check your accounts bandwidth every five minutes.

Your average is the average amount of sustained bandwidth you used for the week.

You maximum is what your connection peaked at during that week.

The percentiles are not worth worrying about to tell you the truth. As long as your 99th percentile is not near your maximum speed for your connection you are in good shape. You said this was for a T1 account, a 7K average isn't near the capacity of a T1 and your maximum is no where near the max capacity either.

Hope that helps...

Thanks. That was a lot of help. I was lost by these and they were not much help. What's the max on a T1 as for speed i know its 1.56 something but when looking at these reports from uuNet i am getting lost..lol

We only have about 20 Hosting Customers on this line tight now we will be working on moving more over to it. Do you have any idea what a good avg. # of user per t1 would be don't want to over load now that i know what the reports from UUNet mean that will help. I want to keep our Network under 50% at all time and only being at &% we are doing great so far..

Thanks for all your help.
