orlando_myers 09-24-2005, 08:30 PM Does cpanel support tomcat and support meaning up to date witht he latest and easy to handle...
Really thinking about getting rid of ensim
http://forum.ensim.com/showthread.php?t=11196&goto=nextoldest
also what are the down time involve in a control panel migration changing from ensim to cpanel
Your input is greatly appreciated
waikit86 09-25-2005, 06:52 AM yes, but i am not sure if it is the lastest version
it's version 5.5.7-1.2
swflnetworks 09-25-2005, 07:27 AM If you update your cpanel to the most recent release, and keep updating it for each cpanel release, then I think you can get the most recent release for TomCAT with it.
bjarmes 09-25-2005, 10:25 AM Cpanel never had great support for Tomcat but they have a plugin installer that might og might not work. I would stay awai from Tomcat on Cpanel - better set up some server edicated for those sites :)
Douglas 09-25-2005, 10:58 AM cPanel on any machine = Make sure you have 512 Megs of RAM just for that.
Tomcat on any machine = Make sure you have 512 Megs of RAM just for that.
Running both? Better make sure your machine has at least TWO gigs of RAM. :)
orlando_myers 09-27-2005, 06:43 PM is it that bad?
what about for one site only thats not that busy?
Steven 09-27-2005, 06:51 PM cpanel is pretty intensive.. The tomcat support sucks in my opinion.
maryhall 09-27-2005, 06:52 PM I agree wwith Douglas about the RAM - everything I have read says that you will need extra in order to run TomCAT. Most hosts don't recommend or support its use with cPanel, because it's can be a nightmare.
orlando_myers 09-27-2005, 08:17 PM well what do you think about it on ensim so far from what i gather it is a nightmare can't upgrade it dont want to breakit with old sensitive ensim enable it for site it serves the jsp page but can't get the manager to work.
well from what i have read so far everyone says it sucks up a lot of resource and use alot of ram i can only go by that untill i expereince for myself..
also if any one knows how to get the manager working on ensim please let me kno, its grealty appreciated.
Douglas 09-27-2005, 08:23 PM The lowest CPU and RAM intensive control panel I have ever found (outside of command line, which isn't even a conpan, lol) is Webmin.
Plesk, Ensim and hSphere seem to be the highest CPU/RAM intensive, though I've had a lot of success with hSphere (Sometimes I absolutely love it, other times I wanna strangle it, most of the time it's the former) on my box, and since it uses Tomcat already... :D
Your best bet is to seriously look at running hSphere, since it does come with tomcat (needs it for it's control panel) if you want a solid CP that works great with Tomcat.
Just an FYI, I've used Ensim, Plesk, cPanel, Webmin and hSphere. This is how I rank them.
1: hSphere
2: cPanel
3: Webmin
99: Ensim/Plesk (slow, cumbersome, confusing)
KNL-BSW 09-27-2005, 08:42 PM Douglas what version did you use plesk? It runs faster than cpanel ever dreamed off on the servers I run/administerate.
It also supports Tomcat, albeit it is still 4.xx for the simple reason so few people use it due to the fact that most of it can be done with other programming languages that run smoother and faster and are less resource intensive.
And from Psofts own site:
Installed version is tomcat 4.1.x so they are not running 5.x either.
Also plesk has a very intuitive interface now. Would almost think you are refering back to 6.x....
As for Hsphere, personally I didn't like it. Didn't like the interface or the system itself. But some do, there is nothing wrong with that. :) To each his own on the control panel he likes. Although I will still keep trying to convert people to plesk. :P
As for the others? Cpanel = Buggy Ensim, never installed it or worked with it so can't comment.

my first test on a hshere i thought it was horrible but i didn't kno it offer tomcat does it support it up to date?
and how simple and easy is it to use tomcat with hsphere even though i am pretty sure somone else will say hsphere sucks and plesk or something else rocks.
Steven 09-27-2005, 09:02 PM What about directadmin and tomcat? Directadmin is secure, stable, fast, light.

Tutorial on installing tomcat on directadmin
orlando_myers 09-27-2005, 09:21 PM where can i test drive direct admin
Steven 09-27-2005, 09:28 PM http://www.directadmin.com/demo.html
j3sUS183 09-28-2005, 08:51 AM i use directadmin and imho is great :)
magicalhost 09-28-2005, 07:08 PM Yuck. Direct Admin stinks. Im addicted to CPanel..lol
ThinkSupport 09-29-2005, 07:32 AM I dont think directadmin is that bad ... its just that people are used to whm/cpanel and comparitively find directadmin less user friendly.
B.t.w, I agree to Steve's suggestion .. tomcat on directadmin can be a good choice ..!
according to my personal experience i guess ensim is the best among all....
