View Full Version : Quick Rackshack questions
Do they offer any uptime guarantee?
How long do they take to set up a server?
Anyone using CPanel on a rackshack box?
If a server is sold out, do they usually order/build more of the same kind?
Any way to add RAID or custom configure their servers?
Thanks

No.

Five minutes if everything works right, hours to days if something goes wrong.

I've seen success stories, just don't get an Ensim box.

They've been changing their offers quite a bit lately and discontinuing old offers.

No. RackShack is not like other dedicated server providers. You can only have what they offer. If you want a custom configuration, go with someone else.

if you have a question about RS's level of service that is fine....but do not ask specific questions like "what does xxx feature mean" or "how many xxx do i get?" or "what does xxx in their TOS exactly mean?"

Why not? I got the answers I was looking for, thanks to Toasty X. Thanks Toasty.
Lighten up!
If you don't want to read about Rackshack, don't click on the thread. Sheesh..

IMO, most of the questions you asked are are fine(the first was a simple question that could have been found on their website).
my point was, that customers should not ask some types of questions about hosts, specifically things like "What does their no refund policy mean exactly?" (only used as an example because it just happened) If you want to know exactly what it means then e-mail the company as that is where you will get the true and final answer, if you want to know what other people think of the policy that is find. If the host in question posts here at WHT, use PM or post a message in the requests forum asking them to contact you.
if you'd like to discuss this further, please PM or email me
DomiNET.net 04-12-2002, 10:59 PM akashd you are right!
By the way rackshack is very fast to answer pre-sale questions, they have a forum and a irc chat with sales staff perm there...

I asked a bunch of questions, some having to do with setup time, some that were directed specifically to members of this forum, NOT rackshack.net. Think about it. As a potential customer, do I want to know how long Rackshack says it takes to set up a server, or how long a customer (or ex-customer) says?I could've posted some questions there and some here, but I didn't. I posted all the questions here, because most people who read this forum are helpful enough to answer questions if they feel they can help. If you're not one of these people, and/or don't want to answer the questions, then ignore it.

The point that people are trying to make here (albeit not necessarily in the nicest way) is that rackshack has a avery active forum, filled with staff and a large userbase. Who can answer your questions better? You asked one question that was not pre-sales related, which could have been answered just the same.
Don't get the wrong idea, we all are not out to get rackshack. You would have the same response if you posted the same questions about verio, or any other large provider. People do seem to be a bit hostile towards RS these days though.
cheers

We (as hosts) will have to keep RS threads in check to keep WHT a community.
And not to discriminate against RS, we also have to make sure that the same thing isn't happening with other hosts....
Yes, I may come off a little strong and I apologize for it, but I do not want WHT to become more commercialized.
And, Yes, I would have replied the same way if it was any other host (even in the other RS threads I commented in)
brandonk 04-12-2002, 11:44 PM I must say.... I'm a RS customer so I don't really descriminate against them...BUT I am a bit sick of seeing the forums flooeded with RS questions that can EASILY be answered via their contact methods.
Discussions, discussions, discussions... that's what we're here for--not presales RS questions!

So you should ask Rackshack if their TOS is really legal in a court of law or binding with a credit card transaction and if it is really enforceable or enforced? I like WHT because it provides an open forum to get a variety of uncensored opinions from a variety of perspectives. For that matter, even if a host wanted to, they might not be able to tell you what really goes on for fear of weakening their legal position.

that question is okay for WH. I still think the type of question i used as an example should be asked directly to the company....
Chicken 04-13-2002, 02:32 AM When I initially read the first post, the thing that popped into my head was that some of it (most) should have been asked directly to the host. After reading Richard's explantion I reread his first post and understand where he's coming from. Sometimes we (yes, even I) read a bit too much into a post and I find the post fine and most of the questions asked about any host on the forum.
Please report questionable posts (rather than comment directly on the forum about them).
meballard 04-13-2002, 02:35 AM Anyone using CPanel on a rackshack box?
I've seen success stories, just don't get an Ensim box. It's very possible to completely remove Ensim from a RS box, I know, I've done it, a few times actually (including for someone, paid).
Thanks. I plan to stay away from Ensim. I had a hard enough time with Sphera and don't need to relive THAT experience again.....
