View Full Version : he.net (hurricane Electric)
edude 04-12-2002, 04:44 PM Has anyone had experience with he.net, 13 hops from AU and 200ms on telstra cable which is pretty good, most other nocs range from 250-300ms.
I am wondering if anyone has used thier service before?
AlaskanWolf 04-12-2002, 04:53 PM We have 2 cabinets with them and all i can say is they are the best company i have ever dealt within the last 6 years of doing this.
The techs always answer the phone, regardless if its 5am or 5pm, they got low prices, and they have a very reliable network.
I never have to worry about network connection problems!!
My sales rep is Matt Leber @ 1-510-580-4191 and tell him Web Hosting Network sent u
RackMy.com 04-12-2002, 05:06 PM They have been around for ever and are very good at what they do!
edude 04-12-2002, 05:15 PM Thanks for the comments, i've decided to use them, i have contacted them for a quote, i just can't believe the speed i'm getting from AU. :)

NetXL 04-12-2002, 11:07 PM Wow!
Just downloaded a 9mb file off of Garys server at 77.8k/sec average. That is amazingly fast for Au-USA, I usually get 20-25k/sec from most datacenters.
- Also on Telstra Cable, uncapped download.

It does not require a tier1 provider to be able to do this. Even VDI can do this; I called many times in 1:00am, 3:00am, 4:00am and there was always somebody to respond to my needs ...
What I am interested in to know is how fast will they respond to a network problem (DDOS attack, for example). That's more important than a server reboot. I can just put a remote reboot device and be able to reboot my server faster than calling the data center (assuming no fsck ;) ).
cheers,
apollo 04-13-2002, 07:32 AM he.net is good. I am not quite sure if they rent bandwidth from tier-1 providers, but I know that they have high-speed pipes to Mae West....
brieretek 04-13-2002, 09:05 AM i was looking at he for renting a half rack, to do colo's and other, we were going to go with them but they required too much money up front and the way they bill their bandwidth kinda sucks. anyways, that's just my point of view, hope its helpful.
apollo 04-14-2002, 04:52 AM Did you pay with credit card?
ps. their network speed is good, I used to monitor their network for a while... by the way there is another company offering nice pricing on colo in San Jose, CA with nice peering with Australian telcos. Let me know and I can PM you - thx
edude 04-14-2002, 05:04 AM Apollo..... please pm me!
HOSTEXP,
Since geographic locations are important, check out www.dedicatedhosting.com.au. 20MS PING.
Their virtual hosting offers UNLIMITED bandwidth. But no mention on dedicated server and co-located. If they offer UNLIMITED for co-location, buy the monster server and co-locate there :D
Just a recommendation because ausforum.com is hosted there and check out how fast it is.
By the way, thanks for letting me know there is this company called he.net :D 170ish PING and 9 hop from Singapore to US.
edude 04-14-2002, 09:38 AM Yes dedicatedhosting.com.au is located in AU, but they would be out of there minds to offer *unlimited* bandwidth, mainly due to the bandwidth prices in AU, 20cents per MB....
I'd prefer them to be hosted in the U.S, he.net looks great, but i'll be going through www-hosting, not he.net...

I knew that as well. I was charged $9 for going 50MB over on my Telstra cable :(
Which company would www-hosting be? www.www-hosting.com??
edude 04-14-2002, 10:49 AM www.www-hosting.net, they use he.net :)

Can get much cheaper than that.
Evenso, it's stupid to risk it.
Actually, last time I checked, bandwidth providers in AU only charge for one way traffic and not the other.. which way, I can't remember mind you.. but the part you do pay for is just insanely priced.
NetXL 04-14-2002, 11:56 PM You don't pay for outgoing, only incoming.
4-15cents is the average price per mb.
That's about 2-8 US cents.
But there's that ratio, like for each 5 outgoing, its 1 incoming or whatever..
