Has anyone bothered to watch WHIR TV? I watched it for about 15 seconds then got blased with an advertisement. It just looks like another ploy to sell advertising to me. I dont' know about you guys but I already get enough ads at home on TV let alone on a web cast.

I understand the econimics behind it but don't have the patience for it and much rather read up on things than watch something like that....

What do you think?

I quite often watch it. I think WHIR and Vito and his guys at Netasis did a fantastic job.

Just like anything like this, it needs adverts to keep itself running. I am sure, that having online talents, and camera crew each week to record this isn't going to be cheap.

I watched it for a few moments.

#1: Ads were boring, no sound included: sad, keep my attention and maybe!

#2: While the host was pretty enough to keep my attention for about a minute and a half - the content all sounded like an ad.

No go for myself - oh and the fake looking CGI environment she was sitting in made me want to hurl up my dinner.

Just my two cents.
It has potential but isn't there yet.

I agree with David. The CGI wasn't bad but with voice-less ads, and the voice sounding like an ad, it felt pointless to watch.

Exactly.

There is a lot of potential though but they'll have to go the way of techTV and add a whole lot more content (press releases will bore anyone -- readng them is bad enough, listening to them is a very painful experience that I no longer want to partake in), shows, trivia type things: vote online for such-and-such, interactivity: afterall that is what the net's about.

We're not here wishing to just sit and listen: we want to be involved.

Fully agreed though that due to the nature of press releases, it sounds more like an ad than anything else. We must keep in mind it's been recently started though. With the right funding, step by step, it can get better.

For a foreign person like me, it's nice to hear how certain words and trademarks are to be pronounced. :agree:

Your assuming they're pronouncing them correctly themselves... :)

I'm an American, if it doesn't jiggle or explode, or better yet jiggle then explode, I lose interest very quickly :stickout:

I agree, WHIR TV was just a great big ad. Shame to see so many people making their websites go this way.

At the same time though, I find it funny Ramprage that you brought this big ad thing up as webhostgear is sorta the same way. 17 Advertisements on one page whereas WHIR TV has 12 ads.. Ouch.

This is merely based on fact and I have nothing against webhostgear.

Your assuming they're pronouncing them correctly themselves... :) Yes, I guess I do. In all honesty, chances are they know to speak English better than I do. Still, there was one word on which I actually looked for confirmation of pronunciation. I like to be thorough at times. :P

Well after seeing the latest ad.. I see that theres music with the ads now!

//Still couldn't sit through the entire thing but lasted a bit longer now.
Still a gigantic advertisement and still not enough on the screen to keep me interested (Nope, not even the good looking femme).

Honestly I'd like to see it improve - or as a joke I'll start my own this week to see just how hard it is to make it interesting.

I just watched the latest one :)
I agree with all the above, It has the potential but its not there yet, The news itself could be a little improved too, Maybe give some more attention to small/medium sized companies and not just the big guns.

Judging from the news that's on it: it's all pay2play so honestly I wouldn't partake in it even if the offer was there.

Now whether or not each ad, er I mean topic is paid for really isn't going to make a difference: The way they're putting it across makes it seem like an ad.

The 1&1 part was just entirely ad-tastic - also didn't realize the CEO of 1&1 was that boring! :)

Yeah he wasn't the most enthusiastic guy was he..
I wouldn't expect a free to view channel to be of great quality and fully of great interesting stuff but still...
Im sure we will see some positive changes in the future.

Dan, http://m-w.com

It's the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, complete with free pronounciations. :)
