There are payment processors that accept credit/debit cards.

But what about cash/check/money order? Like I'm wondering if I can hire a company to process cash/check/money orders for me. So when a customer pays me using one of those methods, instead of mailing the payment to me, they mail it to the company instead and the company handles it for me and deposits the resulting money in my bank account for me.

Expected volume is a few hundred dollars per month, so I'd be looking for something that doesn't have a high membership fee.

I think it is hard to find a reputed and reliable one for such type of processing.

Uhm just have the customer mail you the check/mo/etc why complicate the issue with a 3rd party and "fees" you don't need to pay.

Cashing a check to my checking account is free! And if it clears there ain't gonna be no chargeback when 11 of 12 months are used up!

Well, when someone pays by credit card, I can have the entire process automated for me. I wanted to see if I could get the same level of automation for accepting payments from people who can't/won't pay with credit cards.

I'll put up with the hassles and just deposit them myself, anytime I can cut out a middle man, I cut him out, pretty much without fail. The shorter the path my money has to take to get to my pocket and the less people chipping away at that money, the better I like it :)

Don't know about money orders/cashiers checks, but authorize.net has an eCheck.net service that processes checks.

when you say automation do you mean after they pay through your payment sytem it automatically activates their account and gets their webspace going?

Not necessarily; it would be good enough if it automatically sends me an e-mail or something.

good, automated everything is just begging for fraud and spammers to find themselves to your network. but I think the closest thing you are going to get to what you would like is the echeck.net with authorize

The acceptance of Money orders/cashiers checks is not a recommend payment method and at times can be unorganized. It is best to stick to credit card's, paypal etc and if needed checks as well using the same processor used for the credit card. 2checkout.com has this feature as well.

this is why for checks/money orders, i always have the customer put their invoice number on it (or domain name if you dont use invoice numbers)

Almost all gateways offer some type of virtual check services - definitely check that out. With your volume, it would not be worth it to pay a 3rd party.

All you need to do is add a few fields to your check out form and pass those variables over to the electronic payment gateway. If you have a merchant account - check with your electronic gateway.

Also keep in mind that accepting online checks - you can run the risk of a "bounced check". The money still takes a few days to get to your account, it is not automatic, like a credit card.

This is in fact true and a good idea although there is time when clients claim the payment sent when one is yet to recieve it. By eliminating this payment method you cant be liable for your customers losses or your own.
If a customer really wants your service I am sure they will use your accepted payment methods without a problem. <--My opinion
