I have tested out a number of CMS scripts and have found most are fairly nice but either 1) not very user friendly or 2) way more than I would need and 3) not very customizable.
Snippetmaster, I have found, is nice for a single editable text area on a single page. Not perfect, but much easier to use for a non-techie (especially compared to Mambo... errm Joobla!). Dreamweaver also works nice with templates, libraries, and of course goold old fashioned PHPIncludes.
What I am looking for is something that is customizable and is friendly to custom designs. A web interface to edit pages, add pages, add items to the nav bar, etc...
Basically design your own template, insert the necessary code for the features you want, and then use the CMS backend to change these elements (and be able to create new pages with the template).
Basically a glorified PHPIncludes that is flexible and has a CMS backend.
Does such an app exist?
If not, what CMS scripts are 1.) easy to use (for non techies) 2.) has good documentation (last time I tried Mambo was in the Spring and it still was lacking in documentation and was overly difficult to accomplish many things due to this) and 3.) easily customizable. i.e. I am not looking for a Nuke template system! :)
(I sometimes create sites for friends and it would frequently be easier for them to add their own content... snippetmaster works to a degree, but they cannot create pages or change the nav at all. Allowing them to add content when it is convienent for them is often important, and being easy is equally important. Sometimes getting them to write content for me to put on their site can be hard! Anyhow, that is the main motivation).
