Hi, Thanks for reading my post!

I would like it if you could post what you think are the most common, and most important questions asked by people just starting out in the web hosting (or any other) business.

I would like to know the questions you had when you were starting out, or questions that other people have asked you.

I am going to be using the information I collect from the post for a website I am planning. If you would like more information regarding the website, or would like to get involved, I can be reached on AIM, ICQ, MSN, email, PM.... you can find most of my contact details in my profile.

I am hoping to create a comprehensive FAQ about starting a web hosting business (as well as a general business faq, or any other specific businesses I can get enough info on). At the same time, hopefully people can learn some things from this thread.

Email sent!

Please feel free to contact me via AIM, I am online right now and I usually am. My screen name is "la excepcion"

I would like to hear some questions, or answers to questions from some people...

Is there anyone out there that is looking for an answer to a question regarding setting up a hosting business? This would be a good place to post it, if I can't answer it I am sure somebody else can.

I originally posted this in "Running a web hosting business"
But I think this is a better place to put it... I don't think I can delete my other thread, but Chicken feel free to! :) sorry for the double posting across forums.

Anyways, down to business.

I don't intend on going into the webhosting industry, but I imagine that any tax-related questions will be asked most frequently, especially if these are teens around the ages of 16-18 and this is their first job.

Thank you Lain.

I will add that to my list of materials to include.

Any other suggestions?

Where can I get cheap site templates?

What are the basic terms I should know about hosting, jargan etc?

What type of price plans am I looking at as a first time host?

Any good, reliable resellars?

Please post your site when you are done.

Cheers, ;)

Hello:

I am glad you are all interested in this. However, I am unsure to exactly why I am supposed to email some of you. If you want me to contact you because you are interested in getting involved or providing content, please clarify your posts and say that specifically. If you want me to email you when the site is online....Its going to be a while... I will post a link in this thread, and I would be happy to email you as well, but I need to know when and why I am emailing each person. No point sending useless email to you, and I don't want to email you down the road to say the site is up when you wanted to get involved with it.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks Tim!
I will add those to my list of questions to have answers for!

I will definately be posting my site when it is done, unfortunately, I think that will be a little while though, as so far I am the only one working on it, and there is a lot to be done.

Thats cool. If you need a hand let me know as I have just bought a reseller package and am ready to start as a fully fledged host.

I have to admit my free time has gone down after sorting all this out but I will still have time give you any help if you do need any.

Cheers,

Question: How do I manage a dedicated server? :)

Dogma

My questions:

How to write/where to get a TOS and AUP.
How to make the customer happy.
What are your responsibilities to the customer?
Can I be legally responsible if my client has a problem? How can I protect myself?
Billing info (third-party/merchant)
Control Panels (what's out there? what do they cost? which ones are better, etc?)
Helpdesk and Knowledge base programs and suggestions
How to deal with a customer effectively.

That's all I can come up right now. I'll see if I can think of any more...

I just bought my own web server. I have a professional web designer on the job. Cheers for me. :)

Thats great to hear g333!
Would you be interested in writing an article or story about how things go?
Maybe recording any bumps you run into?
I am still looking for more people to contribute to this great resource of business startup help. I hope to be putting the site together very soon.
Thanks for everyone's help so far!
