View Full Version : Perlbill
AussieHosts 04-12-2002, 11:47 AM Another one that might interest some:

A bit limited right now perhaps. Good potential when it ties in with some CC facilities.
Cheers

I saw this software yesterday and tried it's demo. It is another software from perldesk's author and seems to be a great software.
I currently have obtained phpmanager but it is completely unusable due to several bugs. You need to relpace strings in source code and it takes hours to be installed completely yet with too many bugs. Recently they have added a feature to control license from their own server now and then.
I worked with perlbill and it is not comparable to phpmanager (Just billing features).
Perlbill is as nice as perldesk and I'm sure many people will use it very soon.
Just something, it is not free this time :D Just $90

Which version of phpmanager are you using ?
I have not installed updates since 40 days ago. I visited their demo program today and it seems most of the variables and plan info is now moved to database.
It would be easier to install and use it now but what do you think about "IP Line number" and "Status" issues :) Have you hered such a thing about any other software?
I agree that it is an inovation but it is poorly developped.
blacknight 04-12-2002, 03:57 PM The server status page problem was resolved via a usersubmitted script.
As for the IP number, as I don't use any other control panels than the standard RAQ one (plus Webmin) it doesn't effect me.
The database setup is a lot better - definitely. It makes it a lot easier to update things.
I've been hacking away at it for the last couple of days.. trying to extend a couple of things... It's not bad software, especially if you consider the price:D
Locutus 04-13-2002, 02:04 AM Hi,

No, you haven't because there is no other commercial software that offers this!!! Mind you, you don't have to use these features if you don't want to. What other software do you know that integrates with WHM to auto-create accounts (and don't say Nixt as phpManager uses a similar technique to create the accounts).
I currently have obtained phpmanager but it is completely unusable due to several bugs. You need to relpace strings in source code and it takes hours to be installed completely yet with too many bugs
Complete overstatement. If it was so unusable, why are several hundred phpManager users using it successfully? As you mention, you have not updated the software in the past 40 days, so why have you made this post degrading phpManager? Several posts have been made concerning the new scripts and how easy they are to install. As for bugs, please can you enlighten me on them? Oh sorry, I forgot, you've not updated your scripts for 40 days. Even so, with the old scripts, there where still hardly any bugs. What most people think of as bugs are infact just misconfiguration errors due to the user not installing the scripts properly. If you were able to install them properly, you would not say they were buggy. Did you find the same bugs on the demo? No, you didn't. Want to know the reason why? Because it was installed properly!! I understand that the "Old Scripts" might have been complicated to install for some (mainly due to the inability to follow instructions), but the new scripts are far ahead now and can be installed in 5 minutes. Obviously, customisation of the script templates to your website will take quite a bit longer.
Please don't take this post personally or offensively. I just hate it when people makes posts that are out of place as per this post which is similar to yours: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42984&highlight=phpmanager
Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate negative feedback (this is a major factor in the improvement of software) but only when the feedback is relevant. 40 days without updates? Come on mate, you can do better than that :D
Locutus,
Thank you for your reply. As I told software is very better now and it is obvious that you have spent a long time to improve it.
I am myself a developper and hate when someone critisizes my software (without point) .
When I installed the software after about 2-3 hours I did not get what I expected. (Previous version) In fact ot was not a good experience.
I used it on mchost servers and there was some problems (it did not set space quota etc.) and your reply was that it has not completely implemented or a reply near to this (I am not sure about exact sntence).
The fact is that when you pay for something (even very low price) you want something that really works (and correctly) .
I am sorry too if you took this offensively. I'll install your updated version and I hope I have a better experience with it.
Something more, I must admit that the price you have specified for the program is very cheap. I would sell bug free software for about $70-$80 (But fully functional and buf free).
Best Regards,
Mac
Locutus 04-13-2002, 02:38 PM Hi,
I'm glad you understand :)
Let me know how you get on with the new scripts. We have quite a lot of McHost users now and they all seem to be very happy with the new scripts. FYI, the new scripts uses a new account creation method (built into the WHM module) which eliminates any anomalies in the creation of the accounts, as you may have experienced with the old scripts. Infact, the whm module can be used on ANY server now with ANY host, as long as they have, obviously, WHM installed on it.
Regards,
Locutus
Omair @ HB 04-13-2002, 08:28 PM Hey, PerlBill copied me! :o j/k I have almost same software ready although with clickbank integration ;)
I think we had moved from the topic here. :(
Back to topic, I think this software is excellent and have some great capabilities.
Although, I miss that it does'nt have integration with any of the payment processors else then I think it would beat any other billing and customer management software out there.
Best of luck.
Salam,
-Omair
dside443 04-13-2002, 11:04 PM PerlBill looks great. Personally, we use PerlDesk and ModernBill.
OFFTOPIC.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OMAIR!! :)
Omair @ HB 04-14-2002, 04:38 AM Hey David,
Thanks, but my birthday is on 15th April. I don't know why WHT and SPF records are showing 14. Maybe I had entered 14 at the time of signup, but actual date is 15.
