View Full Version : "Me, too" spam

I'm working on some websites again, so I'm also back to visiting WHT.

Is it me, or has there been an increase in posts that try to seem legitimate, but look more like spam?

I seem to see more posts like these:

"I don't know." (Which, unless the poster was specifically asked for his/her opinion, wins the prize for 'most pointless post imaginable.')

[In response to a previous response that requested more information from the original poster]: "Yes, I'd like to know that, too."

I could go on, but we all know what I'm talking about. Any excuse, no matter how tenuous, to increase the post count.

One of the hallmarks of these posts is that they're followed by signatures that pack a lot of information about the poster's various businesses. That makes the posts seem more like billboards than anything.

It's not my forum and I'm not paying to use it, so I really don't care one way or the other. Yes, it's a minor annoyance... especially because there are a few who seem to post in every thread without ever saying much of anything. Mostly, though, I just wonder if anyone else thinks it's increasing.

Report these and they will be removed. At best, they fall into the useless posts rule within WHT. At worst, they are attempts to circumvent minimum requirements for posting in certain forums or using the private message system. In this case, the offending posts will be removed and the poster will be given a short suspension.

These are not legitimate. Again, please report them!

Just to echo this, I report them alll the time... the mods are pretty quick to get the reports and delete the posts.

Speaking of spam, I say we implement "Quick Report" button. Useless posts and be flagged, then then regular report button would allow us to give additional information and let us recieve a reply.

Just IMHO, since I've seen atleast a dozen posts I haven't reported due to the fact that I'd end up with 24 more emails in my inbox, and it takes a bit for each one.

Yeah yeah, I'm lazy..

Keep in mind that along with that comes the image the company is broadcasting into this community. It only makes one undesirable to deal with on a professional level if such posts make up the most of your posting history.

I am not sure about you, but I am not hurrying to do business with people who make meaningless, and sometimes childish posts.

You are what you post. :)
