How confident are you that v5 will be better then the current version? Will you upgrade? Will you switch from a competing product?

It seems like there are a few other billing applications that are on the "edge" of being finalized and/or released. (ie: WHM AutoPilot v3 (http://whmautopilot.com/v3news.php). Most of these new systems brag about an "API" for external development of 3rd party modules and add-ons.

It'll be interesting to see how these new versions all stack up against each other IF they are actually ever released in a timely manner

Any thoughts?

Eh, whmap has been on the edge of v3 since 2003 (literally). I wouldn't hold my breathe for that one. As for modernbill, v5 looks very promising. :)

WHM AP v3 at least has a public beta available so I can try out the software and see how it works.

With MB v5, they still have "coming soon" for most stuff, and no demo.

But certainly, the MB company seems a lot more "professional" then the AutoPilot company (which seems to be run as more of a hobby then a business).

That being said, I've seen many MB users who complain about serious flaws in the MB software... so maybe that's proof that a nice website and nicely run company can still result in crappy software?

Not sure, as there also seems to be many very happy MB users with no complaints at all.

So.. will you stay with MB v5, or will you try another vendor's release and see how it compares?

99% of the time when MOST people have no complaints about software, and a few hate it's bugs, the few that have problems aren't using it properly. I'm hoping to move from whmap to modernbill within the next month or so. Have to do a few things before I can switch billing systems though.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Classic case of PEBKAC when people have a problem using software that the majority are using problem-free.

As for v5 of ModernBill, I'm looking forward to it. It sounds very promising, and while I am anticipating delays (probably around Feb/Mar. of 2006) in seeing the product, I think it will be worth the wait.

I remember they are talking about all these great new features and its release and plan since February, it's just awaited. I guess these are the marketing techniques to capture tomorrow business and keep intact their customers base keeping them in business.

Recently they've also closed their official version 5.0 update thread.

Hi there,

Being the developer of one of the upcoming NEW solutions (expected towards the end of the year - some delays with design) it's probably not my place to comment, but developing one myself means I've done a lot of research in current and future products, and some of the stuff coming from MB is rather interesting, but we'll have to wait and see how they pull it off. They're a big company and they seem to create a lot of hype about things that are in reality a long way off. We'll see :)

As for WHMAutoPilot 3, I don't know what's going on there, but that was first due out in May 2003 I believe. So, we'll just have to see if they ever get anywhere with it. I know they have a public beta out but it's still a way off.

We'll see :)

Modernbill 5.0 should definately be a big improvement. The main feature I am looking forward to is the newly designed checkout system. It will definately make our checkout smoother.

You should always include all the facts when making a comment such as this about a well liked, heavily used, and popular product.

All information in this thread was resummarized to:

The original thread was closed due to the mass off-topic that had come into it. It was meant to be an update thread and was pulled massively off-topic. In order to rectify the situation they closed the thread.

If we're all meant to include all the facts...

MB started a forum thread at the beginning of August where they said they would post daily updates on MB v5. They showed a copy of an advert they were going to run/running in pingzine and then a another post with 5 features. That was it - no more daily updates, no more posts from MB staff, no more communication - and so everyone went 'off topic' by asking where the daily updates went with a bit of mud slinging in between. After a moderator deleted about 8 pages of posts (roughly) over a couple weeks, the thread was finally closed.

Actually, they posted that thread not as daily updates but as a "reward". LOL If you read the originally thread that caused that thread to be created you would have noticed they asked people to post on sites and link back to the new thread and in return they would post updated information. ;)

Basically they are keeping fairly quiet due to the current industry and market. They do not want to let know what is coming next. Many software developers do this. In fact MB has released more information than many.

I did read it ;) Regardless of what caused the thread to appear, Jon from MB quite clearly said 'more details to be released each day of the week' which never happened:

http://forums.modernbill.com/showthread.php?t=21354&page=1

'Coming soon.....

More details to be released each day of the week starting on August 8, 2005.'

That thread “Summary response" is created on 29th Sept, while my posting was on dated 27th Sept, how I'll come to know about this update two days in advance.

If people are not getting any communication from MB staff since closing of earlier thread this is but natural that it create lot of confusion.

That being said, the new post is quite informative and gives a lot of information.

http://forums.modernbill.com/showthread.php?t=21742

I especially appreciate that they will (hopefully) releaes the "MBAPI" asap, with full documentation, instead of holding on to it, etc...

The success of this "new" ModernBill (like any other "core" type software application) will depend on the additional functionality and support of 3rd party providers.

Between WHM AP v3 (supposedly being released to public on Oct 1) and MB v5 (still a dream - but a very detailed one), I like the direction the billing industry is taking. After about 6 months to a year, we just might see some excellent software that is well designed and can actually make life easier.

:)

I sure hope it has Stormpay INCLUDED as an option. With the success of the StormClix paid to click (easy advertising) section. I have had GREAT success with this and is by far the best marketing I have ever used online. But the users do like to use Stormpay :)
