I was wondering, why do some hosting servers like http://www.f5hosting.com are so expensive. I mean you get 25 meg and you still pay $9 a month. And other servers are so cheap. For the servers that are way expensive, they get lest costumers cause the people who want to buy it would rather have a cheap better one.

For An Example This is what I got for the price Of:

$150 cd yearly or $95 usd

That cheap price comes with the following:

-1 Free Domain Registration
-500 megs space
-5 gigs bandwidth
-Host Unlimited Domains
-CPanel Control Panel
-Web Mail Access
-Unlimited Auto-Responders
-Unlimited Mail Blockers
-Unlimited Email Aliases
-Unlimited Mailing Lists
-Spam Assasin
-MX Entry
-Unlimited Subdomains
-Subdomain Stats
-FTP Manager
-FTP Access
-Error Pages
-File Manager
-Web Protect
-Raw Access Log
-Backup Feature
-SSH Shell/Telnet (on demand)
-Unlimited MySQL Databases
-Cron Jobs
-Mime Types
-Apache Handlers
-Redirects
-Web/FTP stats
-Chatroom
-Cgi Center
-Network Tools
-Interchange Shopping Cart
-Agora Shopping Cart
-Search Engine Submit
-Frontpage Extensions
-Forum Bulletion Board Installed
-OpenPGP Keys
-phpMyChat Room
-phpMy Admin
-Online Database Management
-Server Side Includes
-PHP, CGI
-99.5% Uptime Guarantee

Now this is what I call cheap, and it's a good server, not the ones that rip you off *cough* hostonce.com*cough*

SO anyone can explain that? Or if you think there is one better than that above?

Hi,

The problem with *really* cheap hosting is that they often offer loads but don't cover their costs and so have more chance of going out of business.

You will probably find that more expensive hosts will also have better support but that's not a set rule.

i wouldnt call that cheap i would call that a normal cost for your package its competitive and the norm
the 25 meg price one you stated whats the bandiwth ? maybe the same 5 gigs that you have on your account all packages basically dwell down to bandwith around $1/gig per month is the norm for pricing or around there

Take a look at their Silver Plan. I wouldn't call that expensive.

Really hard to tell. I have been with hosts that charge $5 a month and kick but over hosts that have charged me $29 a month. That is why I am thankful to this board to allow me to at least make my decision based on other peoples opinions. Bottom line is that in some instances -- "savvy" hosts that charge big dollars have their eyes on getting into the pockets of less-savvy users. (This is OK if their support is geared towards the hand holding that you would not get from a "cheap" host....But at this point I just want to pay the money for the advertised options -- and hope that the owner of the server just concentrates on keeping it up, keeping the spammers away, and staying in business.)

come on, how cheap is cheap. It's 10 measly dollars a month. f5hosting offers everything you need. Most sites don't even use up all of their alloted bw, and disk space quotas. 25 MB is more than enough for the average site.

:crap:

I thought that the deal that you're getting is a fair price as well, not necessarily cheap. There are a lot of cheap offers on here.

If a hosting business is charging more, they can afford to put fewer accounts per server, spend more money on supporting their customers, development, hardware, bandwidth, etcetera. Because of this, you usually get what you pay for.

For the servers that are way expensive, they get lest costumers cause the people who want to buy it would rather have a cheap better one. A host that charges $10 or $15 may get less customers than a host that charges $5, but then again they won't *need* as many customers to cover their costs as the dirt cheap host would. In many cases the more expensive hosts are able to provide better support than the cheap hosts (of course there are exceptions) based on the fact that they have less customers to deal with and therefore are able to devote more attention to each customer. There are other things to factor in as well, like the cost the host pays for their servers and the number of employees they have on staff (clearly a host who pays $99/month for a server is going to be able to offer lower prices than a host who pays $400/month). Then there are some hosts who charge more simply because people will pay for it. For instance, I know a host who charges $125/month for 100 MB disk space and 10 GB transfer. Obviously they're not getting near as many signups as a $5 host would, but the fact of the matter is that there are people out there who are willing to pay for it or they wouldn't be in business.

The problem with low cost hosting is that most newer hosts don't think about when they begin to grow, need more servers, and have to hire techs for support. Once they grow to the point of needing help to run the company, a ton of them find that they just can't aford it.

Cheap to start, with good support, but as they grow, they more often then not, fail to provide half the support they used to offer.

They simply can't afford to pay techs and get another machine when the needs arise.

There are exceptions... but most are simply because they are run by high school kids that have no overhead include a house payment. Several of them are doing a great job, because without the normal bills of an adult, they are able to break past the barrier of growth. I know a few that are doing an excelent job, while the majority fail.

Just goes to show you that the rules of life have a few more exceptions on the internet... sometimes you get what you pay for, and others you get much more, or less.

Well, that's my 2 cents on the never ending changes to what "low prices" are.

If you think that's expensive, then you have no idea how much it costs to run a good hosting company. They are actually inexpensive in my opinion. Most (not all) cheap (I mean like insanely cheap) hosts are run by high school or college kids that rent a cheap $99 per month dedicated server and have no idea what they're in for. They don't think about other costs such as a domain name, SSL certificate, merchant account, etc. They don't think about how much support 500 customers will need. While the more expensive hosts get less customers, they don't need as many customers to make the same amount of money, so they can offer better support. Expensive hosts also have less troublemakers such as crackers and spammers signing up because those kind of people don't want to pay much for an account that they won't end up keeping anyway.

When your host runs out of money, you're probably going to find out the difference.

I can't agree that the hosting plan which offers 25MB for $9.99/month is inexpensive.

I get 200MB storage, 10GB for $9.95 month. RIght now, I don't even come CLOSE to using it. I chose them though because of the extras they offered in combination with the price. THe extras I need with most hosts cost at least $20-$30 a month. I've paid that much thinking I'd get the better support...but I didn't. Price and service don't always go hand in hand.

However, I wouldn't mind if I joined a new startup at a cheap price knowing that, in the future, the price might go up to assure the certain level of service. I'd want ot be told that at the initial sign-up, though.
