We havn't had a large amount of spammers but I feel like I've seen many patterns among the ones we have had- thought this may help some of the noobies. :)

1 - Spammers almost never respond to emails.
We used to send out emails to each client welcoming them and asking if they needed anything (now automated) - spammers almost never reply to emails.

2 - Spammers almost never use the correct phone number
This is by far the easiest way to catch a spammer. I would go as far to say it's never going to be a real phone number.

3 - Spammers almost always do update domain name servers
We have however had some who have registered domains like ewbayregister and others which are easily noticed.

4 - Spammers almost always never take up a deal
Most people want to save money if they can - however we've notice d that many spammers will pass up an offer even if its plastered right in front of their face.

Add some more that you think are common things spammers do

What you've described is indicative of a fraud order - not just a spammer.

I think this link is quite helpful to prevent spam, forged e-mails. http://searchexchange.techtarget.com/originalContent/0,289142,sid43_gci1052780,00.html

I absolutely agree. We have seen alot of the same behaviors. This is why we do telephone verification on all orders now. It slows down the "setup" time....but most customers looking for long term hosting relationships aren't that worried about "instant setup"

 How about I just change it to Scum of the earth - both fit into that category ;)

We have noticed a lot of them claim to live in the US but pay in Canadian. Even though we have a US payment option.

Most of ours don't even bother paying. :) I assume they wait for the email usually holds their account data, and get discouraged when it says accounts are manually reviewed. :)
