Being new to the IT field with no prior experience and now working as a Windows Support Tech, it has been one learning adventure after another.

Oh I am new here btw hi! But um, my boss has been nice enough to say that if I learn web design on top of my current job he would be very willing to compensate my salary for it.

Low and behold I find you guys, and now I am here asking this:

With no prior web design experience, with the exception of playing with some HTML years and years ago, how long would it take to be pretty knowledgable in web design and be able to implement it? Nothing too advanced but more than a newb.

Also, where are some great resources to learn web design for free online?

Any help is great appreciated thanks!

It really depends what kind of website you are hopeing to make. If you want to make some great graphics then you need to start with Photoshop or a graphics program that is similar. You can look up tutorials on how to get general ideas for projects. You can either continue practicing that or using the limited knowledge you have, you can create something creative.

It depends, but I would say that since you are good with computers at the moment, in a few months you can create Legit websites. I am working on a new design for my company site and as you can tell, it doesn't look that flashy, I wanted something simple, but the main focus was functionality.

Just graphics wont do it so be sure you read a lot about the different programming langauges, and the basis of webdesign, HTML.

These days you can buy books that claim to be able to teach you basic html in 28 days or something, and they are good for the price.

They way i learnt was just experience, started when i was about 12 and over the years have got really good, and now with my uni course to i hope i can get better.

simple html should take to long to learn though, its when you get into more complicated things such as javascript and php that it takes longer
