View Full Version : WHM reseller root access

Why allow this if its so dangerous.

The reason I'm asking is I am discussing renting out half my server, but the person in question wants to sell reseller accounts in turn, the only way to do this it would seem is to grant root access to a server that I am responsible for, unless I use an addon for WHM which after enquiries so far people seem to have mixed opinions about.

Is there any other way?

What would you do?

Hi, Cyberpunk

Why dont you just make him a reseller package with half of the drive with out root access ? He does not need to be root unless he is administering the server.

Thanks

Hello,

Besides the addon that you are speaking of there is no way to give him access to the server that allows him to create his own reseller accounts.

Because he wants to create reseller accounts he can sell himself, and in whm the only way it would appear its possible to do this is to grant the reseller root access.

Thats why I'm asking is there any other way people know.

ohh ok you can also try WHMreseller http://www.deasoft.com/software.php that allows resellers to create resellers with out root. It works very good with us.

Cool,

Thats the very script I referred to, so you find it works well?

I see it says it requires SSL? I only have shared with server provider and it dosent mention CentOS it supported os.

Yes it does ! Once you install the script, you will see WHMreseller in WHM root. Then what you will do is to give a reseller account access to sell reseller accounts. If you cant do the installation ask them and they will do it for you for free. We have some sub-resellers that love that script. It is very easy to use and to manage.

Good Luck

Yes as long as you have Cpanel installed in the box you are good to go centos and anyother. But you do need SSL to have that installed for security reason.

Do you have a dedicated box ? if so install SSL on it and you are good to go.

A self signed certification works fine on that program. However it is incredibly buggy, I wouldn't use it again.

Hi, camers

What types of problems did you have ?

Thanks

It deletes its self after updates etc, and when reinstalled all information is lost, sub resellers etc.

WOW ! that must of been a big pain. Luckly the only problem that we had with it was that the license did not update, but that was a problem with the update file of the script. But everything was fixed that same day and all works fine now. I guess it depends on the machine because on a another server we tried installing it and we had a problem that the script would not show up or it disapears after a month or so.

Thanks

We are releasing a new version of WHMreseller - version 1.3 very soon.

The old version (V1.2) uses curl commands to complete WHM actions (account creation, terminations, etc) from a cpanel account. This method is 98% reliable as everyone who uses WHM will know - when a server is heavily loaded WHM / Cpanel runs slower and sometimes even not at all. So version 1.2 is ok 98 % of the itme, but when the server load increases it will not perform any operations.

Anyway so we have scrapped V1.2 and are currenlty re-writing it completely as a WHM addon module. Much the same way Fantastico was changed from running in a separate cPanel account to now running in WHM itsef. Its a MUCH better way to have it setup and the new V1.3 will be 100% reliable as well as faster. Plus there will be no need for logins now as WHM addon modules run under the logged in user. We've also added some extra features also, now you can limit Sub WHM's via number only with Sub WHM's having limited allowed packages etc - ie the non-resource method of reseller limiting. V1.3 will be released in a few days time.

Why allow this if its so dangerous.

The guys from cPanel just made it an optional feature for use with co-owners of a server or for reseller account for the owner of the server... needed for whatever reason :)
