I bought a domain name from a friend that never got his DOA web site off the ground. I paid slightly more than the renewal fees for virtualhiker.com, net and org.

He was going to run a hobby site for a outdoor enthusiast but never got past day 1. I like the generic nature of the name and figure it could be used for something?

Anybody think is worth more than the registration fee?

It's a good name, but personally I don't believe it's worth more than registration. The reason is because there are probably several other domain names that could be registered similiar to it, such as CyberHiker, eHiker, NetHiker ect. Those are probably taken, but you get the point. Once again though, a domain name is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.... and maybe someone will want it from you, but generally I don't think it's worth more than $10.
