HostRefugee-Vince 09-17-2005, 06:39 PM The best thing to do is get a few other sites to link to yours... Then the search engines will pick you up automatically. concreteman 09-17-2005, 10:27 PM Free search submission works good if you like spam, if you want to get crawled and get a good ranking in search engines, the key is content. If you have the best content and a good design, you will need to beat the bots off with a stick. Also helps if you target something less popular than "hosting". There are forums devoted to SEO, google it and plan on soem leangthy reading. Festus2005 09-17-2005, 10:33 PM There are only 4 search engines worth submitting to: Google, Yahoo, MSN, Teoma/Ask Jeeves. Free services or paid services that submit your website is a bunch of hot air and could get you on some link farm website that will negatively affect your ranking on real search engines. You need a link to your website on at least one site that is indexed by the search engines, that will help get you listed more promptly. Once you have the link, you will get crawled by tons of spiders. ldcdc 09-17-2005, 10:35 PM the key is content. The key to getting traffic (with very few exceptions) is actually marketing, with an emphasis on search engine marketing and optimisation. dawhb 09-18-2005, 09:42 AM Search engines will index your web site even you never submit it to them. However it is a good idea to be listed in Dmoz.org for example. But that will not bring you great popularity. Regards D. Nadabrahma 09-18-2005, 06:15 PM Free submission sites will give you one thing free: S P A M! And as already said, your site will get indexed anyway, at the few places that matter. All you need to do is make sure you have some incoming link to your site from another established site. DMOZ... ouch, don't give me a headache... THat place is totally fossilized and a pathetic leftover from the previous century.... jclarke 09-18-2005, 06:40 PM I would submit your url to google, thats all your really need :) http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl << Signatures must be set up in profiles >> Shaliza 09-19-2005, 04:47 AM There were some good search engine submission sites a few years back. I used one when my site went up for the first time & it worked perfectly. No spam or anything. Not sure if it's still around & I can't remember the name of it... mike49085 09-19-2005, 02:53 PM Originally posted by jclarke I would submit your url to google, thats all your really need :) http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl << Signatures must be set up in profiles >> Thanks, how long does it usully take for your site to show up? promo2go 09-22-2005, 12:22 AM Originally posted by jclarke I would submit your url to google, thats all your really need :) http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl You need some half decent content and alot of backlinks pointing to your site.
