Hello.
I was wondering if someone could estimate how many online users 4 gig a month could handle
Im running a vB board with gzip at one.
My board is pretty much standard, just a few hacks
Thanks

Users online is more or less pointless, as you could have zillions of users online, however if they actually start clicking on threads, damage will be done. How many page views do you get? How big are your pages (average)?

What exactly do you mean??
It really depends on the server!! You could have 500 users online but the problem would be that you would use up your monthly transfer allowance very quickly + a lot of server resources . I would guess you are using shared hosting so your host would probably limit you to 10-15 concurrent users on an account of that size before they would start trying to upgrade you to a higher account due to high resource usage. :D :D
Hope that is what you were asking for!! not to sure though.. ;)
Hi Chicken.
I should tell you that I’m a complete rookie at forums LOL
I just started the forum 3 weeks ago and have 30 members. I have 1985 posts so far, so I have a fairly active membership.
As far as how big my pages are, I have no idea.
I though if you have guests on and they are looking through your site that would impact your bandwidth.
I guess what I’m trying to figure out, if I get, say, 100 members how many online users could 4 gig a month handle.
I realize this would be a ballpark figure.
Cheers

Yes thats what Im talking about, thanks
I was just trying to guess how much traffic my plan could handle before I would have to purchase more bandwidth.
Im curently with www.clickhost.net
They're a fair size outfit ( Canadian) I only pay 6 dollars Canadian a month ( 4 dollars US) so it's a good deal. I have been with them for almost a year, happy so far.

About:
800 visitors daily, 30,000 hits daily, 125,000 kb daily.
Good luck
wow thats alot of traffic.
I was starting to get worried. I was reading post with forums having 20 members on at the same time and the guy was using 15 to 20 gig a month.
I couldn't figure that one out for the life of me.
I thought 4 gig a month was a good amount.
Thanks for your help:)

With that kind of forum, with 4 gigs a month, I would say you are safe for a while (unless your forum traffic increases dramatically). But it also depends on what you allow as forum's posting: can people download pics, URLs, or even files, because this will of course increase the BW you use.
I have some pics urls but the pictures are located on my other website, the one I get with my internet. These forums (that have the picks) are for members only.
And no I don't allow files to be downloaded.
Thanks

If you haven't already, you can disable avatars to save a little bit of bandwidth.
