I use Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects (Adobe Video Collection) and would like to know if using these Adobe products if I can encode my video in flash format much like you see on ESPN or FOXNEWS.COM? I know I can do the regular .avi, .mpg, wmv etc... but I really am interested in the Flash movie files.

If my adobe video collection can't do this... is there a software app out there that can take my .avi's and convert them to flash video for the web? Thanks for your help?

The simplest way would be through SwishVideo (http://www.swishzone.com/index.php?area=home&product=video) though it does not stream but only converts your movie files to .swf format. If you want streaming Flash video, then you would need to encode your files into Flash Video (FLV) format and place a FLV player on your site. More info (http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/flash/video.html?promoid=home_dev_flash_video_021104) from the Macromedia site as well as more info (http://www.flvplayer.com/forum/) on FLV players. Good luck.

Yea... I want to be able to show FLV flash videos on my website. Other than purchasing Flash 8... (I already have Flash MX Standard)... what are my options?? Thanks for the replies.

You should be able to do it then with no problem. View my rant here (http://iwdn.net/showthread.php?t=2558). Download the free encoder and build a generic FLV player for web (there's a link to the Macromedia site there for a tutorial on how to do so).

I see there are numerous encoders. Which would you suggest. I want to remind you... I do not have Macromedia Flash MX Professional... I only have the Standard edition. Is this still okay??? I do have all the latest Adobe Video software however. I am a bit confused. Thanks for all your help!

It should be fine. You only need to build a generic player in FLash MX (not sure if Pro/Std is of any concern) but you'll have to go through the Macromedia link to find that out. The encoder I use is Riva, the free one. It does its job and file size is small enough. If you want superior compression quality, you'll have to opt for a paid encoder. All that does is encodes your .mov or .avi file into the proper FLV format so your .swf FLV player can read the file to play it via Web.

we are using Flash 8 and it does this for you along with a TON of other flash video services... worth the investment if you are serious about video on the Internet.

Yea... about 2 months ago I bought Studio MX... figures that they would come out with everything updated last week. Do you all think that FLV is the future of web video??? I have yet to see any FLV websites that are more desirable as far as quality than ol' fashioned wmv, avi, quicktime, etc.

I've found FLV quality to be equal to the others at anywhere from 1/2 to 1/10th of the original file size. Obviously if you overcompress, you'll lose quality, but FLV is the closest thing I've found to the holy grail for embedded video on a Web site.

Well in that case I may just have to upgrade to Studio 8. Just to make sure... I can do everything I need to do with converting my premier pro and after effects movies to FLV within Flash 8 Professional correct??? Also, with FLV, can a web user resize a video while it is playing... full screen? Thanks.

Once you install FLV player component from Macromedia, you can export direct to FLV format from After Effects, I'm sure Adobe Premiere as well should work(though that is an inferior product in my opinion), you should use Final Cut Pro.

You don't need Studio 8 unless you just want the upgrade. I use Flash Mx Pro and works fine. You only really need Flash to make your player to call the FLV file.

As for resizing a video to full screen, I don't know about that. With my experience so far, no. But you may be able to customize that within your player.

has anybody know any type of script/program that's like Foxnews or something a like where you can provide a mini entertainment center on your site to stream the videos?

I too would be interested in finding out where I could find such a script. I really like FOXNEWS' video console.
