I go through a mouse every few weeks, and I'm really getting tired of it. This latest one that I got was an infared from TigerDirect.com, and the buttons are starting to not work (I click, and nothing happens, so I have to click REALLY hard to get it to do something).

Does ANYONE have a suggested mouse brand that they suggest I buy? I love the infared stuff because I don't have to mess with the mouse ball, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Thanks! :D

I brought a mouse that was supposed to last forever.

Apparently I didn't read the small print.
After it died and I tried to return it, they tried to show me the little tiny writing about feeding the pour thing. :(

Anywho . . . . . This is it now.

i've been using logitech's mouse man optical mouse for a few months now...works great!

it's optical and cordless, using rf technology. Range on it is about 6 feet and the batteries(2A) will last about 2 months(my mouse is used about 14 hours a day)

I love my Microsoft Wireless Optical mouse - feels comfortable, and works well. Just be sure to invest in some rechargable batteries (if you are a power user - or business user) you will run through a set of batteries every three weeks or so. I always have a set of rechargables ready to go ;-) In case of emergency.

If wireless isn't your bag, I also loved my MS Optical Explorer...it still works

I third the logitech mouseman optical cordless ;)

I actually got this mouse and a cordless logitech keyboard for about $40 or so at overstock.com (they were both refurbished) but still works great so no problem for me!

the mouseman cordless optical mouse is about $60 retail

there is one that sells for about $50 and another that sells for about $70, the more expensive one has a progammable button i've got the cheaper one...i probably wouldn't need that extra button

I've gotten hooked on Microsoft's Trackball Explorer. I've had it for a year now and it has survived repeated use by a 3 year old.

I use mine quite often, and just have the $10 optical one that nearly every store has. I don't think it is one particular brand, I've seen the same thing listed under many names.

I would also recommend this one. We have staff on 24 hours a day and each mouse lasts close to 2 months (of 24 hour a day usage)

They are really great....BUT, you do have to stick in good batteries. We tried to save on the batteries by buying cheap, no name ones. The mice died within a week or so. Stuck some Duracell in.....worked for almost 2 months....

I have the exact same Logitech Mouse Man Wheelmouse that I think your talking about, its a great mouse, except it still has a ball that needs cleaning everyonce and awhile. But its been great, and lasted me for almost 3 years now......

BTW: Don't order stuff though Tiger Direct, horrible company, I bought 25 mobo's out of there once and had to ship back 18 of them because they were bad.... Figures....

I guess you will actually have to touch it. I can tell you this though, I love microsoft mice. I have two, intellimouse explorer optical, and the wireless version. Both are still in perfect working order. My USB one survived a whole summer's worth of playing diablo and other RTS games. On the other hand, the logitech I had chocked very soon.

Poor thing. :)

I have a logitech marble mouse USB (optical), and it's better than a mouse for my CTS, but it's not as good as a touch pad. When I went to compusa, they didn't have any touchpads to replace mine that died, so I figured this would be just as good. I was wrong.

So, marble mouse, available to good home (in exchange for touchpad?).

I suggest this one: http://microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/io_info.asp
It is great for browsing, because it allows you to set up 2 shortcuts, mine are Forward and Backward for IE. Nice mouse, I think it retails for $40 USD.

I'd suggest a wacom tablet. Wireless, batteryless mouse. :D

I got the Graphire2 and love it, plus I can draw on my computer (plus it works great for graphics). It does take a little getting used to though.

I'd really love to get the 15" tablet that has an lcd monitor and lets you draw directly on the screen (Cintiq?? I think)...

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

I am going to go with the recommendations that have been posted. I just did a BuyItNow on eBay for the Logitech MouseMan Wheel Wireless mouse for $22.50.

Thanks!

Never been a big logitech fan - I think it's just the shape though. I have an Intellimouse Explorer I think is great (had it for three + years now). Just got a new one for the desktop though - a LabTec - quite cheap but so far is working great and fits my hand perfectly.

Logitech's Trackman Marble FX (old version, not the new one).

IMO the other Trackman versions just don't feel as comfortable. This one is molded to fit the hand and the thumb is used for Left button clicking (*fingers* for Right button Clicking).

Zero finger exhaustion from clicking. No mouse pad, and it's optical (no more dust bunny problems!).

And for percision work, it's tops (perfect for pixel painting).

I have been using mouses for almost 20 years (since the Macintosh/Lisa came out) and I've tried countless higher-end mouses, trackballs, pen/tablets, etc. I'm very picky about these things. The best I've ever used is the current version of the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer (http://microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/ie_info.asp). I'm currently on my fourth one; the first version they came out with had problems with the buttons (Microsoft actually replaced mine for free). The second version had a higher sampling rate, but it still didn't track perfectly on my high-shine woodgrain desk so I had to use a mouse pad. The latest version is slightly redesigned, has an even higher sampling rate (it tracks flawlessly on my desk--no more mouse pad), and is nearly perfect in every way, well built and precise on screen. Also, once you've used the side buttons to move forward and backward between Web pages, they become as indespensible as the mouse wheel.

I have also tried the current wireless version of the Intellimouse Explorer (figuring that the combination of optical and wireless would be the ultimate) and was unhappy. The pointer moves a little jerkily, but the biggest problem is that it is imprecise when moving very short (a few pixel) distances. (I think this is due to a battery-saving feature where it "goes to sleep" when idle, and you need to move it a little to "wake it up" before the pointer starts tracking.) If you're using it for Web surfing it's okay, but it's not good for working with Photoshop. The wired version doesn't suffer from these problems.

Someone mentioned the Microsoft Optical Mouse (less expensive version of the Explorer). I have one on one of the computers here in my office, and I don't like it as much as the Explorer. It feels lighter and less precise than the Explorer.

I have not been happy with the Logitech mouses. I think my biggest complaint is that the mouse wheels don't have a smooth feeling motion to them. Most of their models do not have the aforementioned side navigation buttons.

Someone else mentioned the pre-mouse wheel Trackman Marble. I had one of these for about a year and found it excellent. The problem I had was that for long mousing sessions, my hand sitting stationary on the track ball was a little fatiguing, and I also worried about a repetitive strain injury because of the fact that only my fingers were moving, not my hand or wrist. I rate it better overall than a "balled" mouse, but not better than an optical mouse.
