View Full Version : Domain registration/register/reserve for free ?

I'm a little short on cash, so here are some questions.

Does anyone know of a service where I can register a domain name for free ?

What about a service where you can reserve a domain name so that someone doesn't get it first, and then pay later ?

I used to have a link to a site that had a search engine on domain registrations but I have lost it.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hi Gopher,

If you can scrape together $13.50 you can register a domain at http://www.000domains.com and their service is very good from what I've heard.

I don't think there are any places that will allow you to register a domain for free without some sort of catch that will most likely end up costing you more.

Htpp://www.namezero.com and http://namedemo.com are two places that offer what you are looking for. If you don't mind an ad frame, and the fact that *you* don't own the domain, this might work for you.

I will say though that I'd only use these if you really can't scrape up the $13, as you'll have more headaches if you go the 'free route', then if you just register the domain in your name.

If you do choose to use these services, READ THE FINE PRINT CAREFULLY.

I would not suggest using NameZero. You will have many headaches and *if* you decide to transfer your domain from them(buy it from them) it will cause you many headaches. If you can't afford a domain, you surely can't afford webhosting, so you will have a trouble finding a compatible webhost(because of the way their coding is set up). You can not use 3rd party mailservers(like Everyone.net). You must set up subdomains manually(no wildcards). Their mailservers are extremely slow(it takes 3 hours on a good day). Tech support is non-existant, and on an 800x600 screen resolution the advertisment takes up about 13% of the screen(too much).

I think I've seen posts elsewhere on WHT with prices under $10 per registration per year.

If not, I have heard a rumor that Chicken will let you register your name with him for free at http://www.ChickensBridalRegistry.com

However, this only lets you buy gifts for Mrs. Chicken and him.

I haven't used them (I like Dotster.com at $15/year), but this company advertises $9.99/year domain registration: http://www.submerged-ideas.com.

LOL... if you want I'll post my PO Box for those of you who want to send us money :)))

By the way, the suggetions I posted I wouldn't recommend either. They do one thing. Allow you to register a domain for free. Other than that, they create future headaches and expenses that you might not be willing to deal with. I know *I* wouldn't. So take the suggestions for what they are...

I *always* recommend you pay for the domain.

Just as I thought. Now you've heard it straight from the Chicken's beak -- he's openly soliciting bribes. And look at that threatening innuendo!

Terrible. Jus' terrible.

Carlos, I may be a goat farmer... but I'm an honest goat farmer.

Well, other than that Ginsu knife scheme, anyway.

What, do you mean the Ginsu knife was a scheme ?? I was just about to signup for it .. damm you ..

I had initially intended to offer Ginsu knives for $179.99 -- a one-time, lifetime charge -- including 100M of hard drive storage with each set.

However, someone appears to have cornered the market. There doesn't appear to be any hard drive storage left, anywhere on the planet.

Why, just today, I had to delete my prized collection of .gif images of young, pretty female goats to make space on my hard drive for my ever-growing collection of classic spam.

That's only in Australia, where "men are men, and sheep are nervous."

Slight correction from an Aussie : Men are men by lusting after the world's most beautiful female population, and sheep are laughing at their Kiwi brethren, because they know the Kiwi men certainly will be men.
