Hello,

I am looking into the various Merchant Accounts & CC Processors out there. I have had 2CO, but I am planning to make a switch. Please post your recommendations and opinions on the reliable ones out there.

Yipee.

You should check out ModernAuthorize. They are a reseller of bluepay, and have no yearly fees. They charge a $49 setup fee, and then 4.95% (last time I checked at least). This is quite a bit better than going directly through bluepay.

Whatever you decide, be sure that you have, or can get, a module for your shopping cart software. Unless of course you want to code your own, ugh!

I wish to use this in conjunction with my Biling manager ClientExec. :)

Check out CDGCommerce.com. I think ClientExec has an arrangement with them and even offers their merchant accounts as a Reseller.

It depends on what country you are in / volume. If you are in the United States or Canada and selling over $1,000 a month, a merchant account is usually cheaper in the long run and a bit more professional.

If you are in the UK, the set-up costs are usually a bit more and your ROI might be a bit longer depending on your volume

We use Worldpay and I would highly recommend them
I have met the Bluepay guys. They had a stall next to ours in the HostingCon and I had the opportunity to speak to them (and have unlimited fortune cookies... ;-) ) . They did seem to have a very attractive offer

We use Authorize.net provided via CDGCommerce, however since we've used them, we have not been a total 100% satisfied customer, as there systems tend to fail quite often on the Real Time Report. As well, they have lost documents sent through the mail by us.

Much improvements can be done, but they're OK.

Don't forget to check out the rates your own bank offers. Sometimes these are the cheapest. Only problem is that you often end up paying full fees on the gateway as the 'waived startup' costs usually only come with a merchant account from a 3rd party. The flip side is that you end up with no commitments that way and can change services if it does not work out.

We are using Paypal. We recommend it.

Thanks for the nice words, TVI, Napster & Netway. :)

BTW - HostNetway, I am not sure what mailed documentation you are referring to? We always encourage everyone to fax in applications or upload securely as opposed to USPS due to the that we the postal service has lost mail before.

Also, regarding our MerchantPortal(tm) system - the uptime ratio has been well in excess of 99.9% on that overall. So I do not think it is really fair to say that it has failed "quite often".

We even rebuilt the system a few months back to avoid the occasional outage that would happen on our VPN connection to the bank.

It is also worth noting that the MerchantPortal(tm) system has absolutely no impact on actual merchant processing as it is just a reporting & customer service system used to make things easier on the reconciliation and viewing side. So even if we take it offline for a maintenance window, it has no impact on any merchant's ability to process payments.

Yes, however for the documents we were doing, they had to be mailed, you didn't offer a fax option. Also, the Real Time Report doesn't fail that much now, but you still have problems to where it doesn't update, but your above statement supports that you have been working on getting a better VPN to your bank, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm going to PM you with a question as well.

Thanks,

Ken

Does Bluepay and ModernAuthorize accept adult?

I doubt they do but it would be something you would need to ask them. Since they are based in the United States using a United States acquiring bank, you would still need to pay the registration costs associated with Visa / MasterCard

We use bluepay/modernauthorize, and the agreement does not restrict any legal material, including adult material.

(can't find it on their site)

Their setup fee includes getting Visa/Mastercard setup.

It is important to keep in mind that most merchant agreements do not list out their unacceptable merchant types... you won't find many agreements that state "adult merchant content is not allowed" - instead this is at the discretion of the underwriting department and almost all U.S. processors now restrict or outright decline approvals of adult merchants.

The agreement that you are linking to above is an iPayment merchant agreement. If that is the processor that you are referring to, they will likely decline any adult subscription merchant as it is on their unacceptable merchant list these days.

It is also important to clearly disclose that the account is indeed an adult Web site as if you don't do that - the risk department will likely find out at some point and likely shut down the entire merchant account and potentially place it on the TMF/MATCH list.

It is also important to know that there is a required high risk registration fee that must be paid by any adult membership site and if that fee is not being assessed, something is definitely amiss.

By the way, here is a list of not accepted businesses for Bluepay https://www.bluemerchant.com/bluepay/merchantform/notAcceptedlist.asp

If you want to process adult and you are start up , consider 3PP processors for it like ccbill or paycom. If you have certain volume with processing history, there are few domestic banks what support adult. For instance, netbilling can refer you to them.
