I'm sorry....but I just can't see how it fits into a name of a web hosting site....

I voted for smokyhosting.net because the .net is for the internnet infrastructure (although it doesn't really matter anymore). But the .com is good too, since people recognize it easier.

smoky? reminds me of fire = i.e. computer exploded.
also smoky = unclear.

smoky has too much of a negative connotation.
i don't like any of the names LOL

Me neither, the names are a bad choice. How about:

blowsmokehost.com

:D

You chose a name that could be easily misspelled! People might put smokey instead of smoky. You could register 8 more domain names... :D

I think that domain names, are like band names. You can get one that sounds good, but it's really the site/business (or band in this analogy) that makes the name. However, I agree that those aren't the best names, but it's because I think that generic names or colorful names are the most appealing and valeuable. Further, I believe that the shortest, most easiest to spell are the best too. Preferably something also with the word "site", "web" or "host" in it (which I guess you did). This is just my opinion. People say some domains aren't worth much or anything, and think other's are worth millions. Everyone has their own opinions though. I do agree that people could mispell it though. I'd personally choose something better, and something a little more generic. I think something like "Smokin' Host" would have worked better, but that would make a poorly spelled and confusing domain name at that. Well, I'm not here to push my opinion about that, so I'll just say, that I personally think .com's are worth more than .net's.

People almost automatically assume any name they hear is a .com. So, you can rule out any .net, .org or worse, some .cc or other off the wall extension that will just confuse some people. I try and get the shortest .com name and try and get something relating to the site/business/service thrown in for good measure. That's not easy, of course. Once I find a good .com version, I make sure that the .net is free too and grag them both. I will only get a .com if the .net isn't free, if the .com is too good to pass up. Another rule i have, is to not get domains that are plural, unless you also get the singular version. I.e., webhosts.com and webhost.com. If you get webhosts.com, you'll find 1/2 your referrals going to webhost.com. Anyway, I didn't vote, because none of those domains you listed appealed to me at all. I'd just suggest finding something better (but that's just my view, and it might seem very good to you, and to other's), and not just use one of those because you happen to just have them. (Assuming that's at all why you're using them.)

smokyhosting.com is my favorite. It is easy to spell and sounds warm and friendly. Since you registered the rest, you might as well have them point to your site anyway.

My opinion for figuring out a domain name is get something that is easy to spell, pretty short, and will stick in someones head if they hear it only once or twice. Short domains are good but their is a danger trying to be too short and using an abreviation for your domain. You might end up with something that is very hard to remember like gcefcu.org (a credit union). In that situation they probably would have been better off spelling it out a little or coming up with something else.

That is how I picked the name for my site. It is two very easy to spell words ramed together that catch a persons attention. If you get a person to pause a moment to think about something they just heard, they have more chance of remembering.

smok·y Pronunciation Key (smk)
adj. smok·i·er, smok·i·est
1. Emitting smoke in profuse volume: a smoky stove.
2. Mixed or filled with smoke: smoky corridors.
3. Resembling smoke: a smoky haze.
4. Discolored or soiled with or as if with smoke: “The smoky Sicilian afternoon sun tinged the green landscape with red” (Mario ****).
5. Tasting of smoke: smoky sausages.

I hate to be harsh, but is that really the kind of image you would like to create for a web hosting company? I dont like any of the domain names.

English. According to Websters Collegiate Dictionary , "smokey" is a variant spelling of smoky. So I stand corrected, it can be spelled either way :) . I still don't like the name. Either way , it would be confusing to anyone entering it in the address bar.

I'm almost convinced to drop all the smokies and find a new name for the site. Maybe you guys want to buy the domains. ;)

Anyway, That is not my logo. I planed to use it in place of the "O" on smoky but was avised here (where else?) not to. Still I think it is a funny face.

Thanks guys. If I keep it, you will see it around

I never was a big fan of actually coming up with a good name. It seems that if you can provide good service and if the domain is short and "catchy" (as they say), you will get the customers that you deserve.

My site (myrmid.com and doomwhale.com) just came from picking up Nintendo game manuals and shortening certain words.

Smart, eh?

btw, smokeyhosting.net :D
